We had the good fortune of connecting with Damar Ramad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Damar, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a hip hop artist, my music serves as a minor reflecting the realities of my community. I shed light on social issues, sparking conversations and inspiring change. Through my lyrics, I amplify voices often silenced, empowering listeners to challenge injustice and strive for a better world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So my name has this mirror reflection once you really look at it on paper. Damar Ramad, the art in that is a acronym. Here’s what it means, “Da Artist Making All Recognize Real Above Mankind And Determine.” What sets me apart from the others I believe is the intent. Although all of this is considered entertainment, alot of my songs have came from hardships & just being a native born and raised in Memphis. So having the intent to just want to connect with at least one person in the crowd or somebody who didn’t mind hearing a song they normally wouldn’t find on spotify. I’m most proud of my collection of ep’s titled ”The 4 Letter Word’. I did a series from 1-3 and have the 4th installment on the way. I can’t wait for you guys to hear it! None of this was easy at all, I had to up my pen all through ought the years from subject matter to how vulnerable I want to be. The biggest takeaway is knowing where I was mentally through these creations and overcoming the challenge which was can you perform it and own it based on the rawness. I’ve learned to accept that this is all a process no matter what tomorrow brings. This is all brought to you under Still Got Bills Entertainment. I want the world to know no matter what obstacles u face, just know we shifting the narrative from a survivor’s mentality to a creative space.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok, that’s a no brainer. We gotta chill spot call the Black Lodge Now if you into the bar scene with dim lighting and a social crowd to mingle and network. There’s also the HiTone Cafe with live music and great food & drinks. Dreamfest is a 3 day weekend music festival dedicated to promoting Memphis music, I’d recommend them if you really love discovering new music from artists in the city. Those just a few that come to mind.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh absoulutely! Big shoutout to my wife, Takera Richardson. She’s been with me every step of the way throughout my music career. She was the first to convince me to actually take my music to another city and see how the crowd would react. Of all cities we came down to Atlanta in 2018 when T.I.’s trap house museum had lauched. Most importantly, we had the right connect to get in which was my videographer / director, Jonathan Ford along with my cousin Jedeye Moree. I also had a show down there for the A3C Showcase Edition and showed up & showed out then to our surprise, DJ UNK was in the crowd. I made a good impression on him and he gave me tips on how to move as a artist. Now none of this would have never taken place if my wife hadn’t convince me to go. I love her very much for being in my corner and having my best interest.
