Meet Daiyon | Music artist/entrepreneur/Brand

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daiyon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daiyon, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My name is Daiyon and I’m from Beloit Wisconsin. I am the youngest of 6 children, 5 boys and 1 girl.–Fred, jon, Lewis, tarina, tony and me. Beloit is a small city but it definitely shaped who i am. Coming from a musical background, especially with my mom, Flora jean, being a legend there and also listed in the music archives, it fueled me growing up. My dad, Mack, was a known name in Alabama and rockford for his jazz and blues talents, so i was blessed with the gift from both parents. plus, all of my brothers either play guitar, bass, drums, and one was a rapper that i followed after. Beloit has plenty of talent but very few outlets so that encouraged me to leave and bring the dream back, once im in a position to. I didn’t want to leave her behind, but once my mom told me not to get stuck in beloit, that was all the motivation i needed. During this time, Buddy, the man i called my pops passed and my brother Tony got sent to the feds all in the same year. After having that conversation with my mom, i knew i had to make her proud because she is kind of living her dream through me. My mom almost signed to motown before they were called motown, so music is deeply rooted in my family.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What im most proud of is just being able to create music at a level where it is starting to get the notoriety it deserves. Recently, I received a plaque for my single “Get With The Program” featuring Philthy Rich and Rockford Native Blazo, that charted at #1 on the DRT (Digital Radio Tracker) Independent Chart. The single also debuted in the top 100 on ITunes. It was a momentum boost for me, in terms of my first breakout record independently. I know i have way more work to do but that song in a way put me on the radar. What sets me apart is my drive and dedication. There’s been Plenty of times I’ve driven two hours to the studio just to lay down two songs and then turn around to drive 2 hours back home. My passion is rare and i feel like it definitely keeps me grounded. I got where i am today by keeping faith, keeping my foot on the gas, staying up plenty of hours, and planning my next step and executing what i set out to do. For me there are no breaks. The minute you take one, there’s another hungry artist searching for the same opportunity. it’s either you go all the way wit it or get out the way for other artist that take it more serious. This music business is not a easy game at all but life ain’t easy so when you do accomplish what you want in life, the story will relate to so many taking the same route. Thats what i do it for. The lessons I’ve learned is trust nobody in this business until they show you they can be trusted. We live in a world where people have motives. You have to trust your gut, trust god, and trust the ones that have showed you they were there when you were broke and at your lowest. Stick to those people, because we often see the ones that do get in position run back to those who were there for them before it all started. What i want the world to know about me is that i have a vision much bigger than music. I want to open doors for people that need help and dont know who or where to turn to for guidance. I believe i will reach people not only musically, but on a personal level to. I love helping people. If i was a billionaire, i know i would be everywhere helping someone with needs that they can’t obtain. I love music, but touching peoples lives is more important to me. Music just gives us artist the platform to reach millions, whether it be physically or vocally and i prefer both. You might see me or hear about me going to people 1 on 1, helping them overcome a situation with intentions to spread positive energy to create more leaders like me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First thing I would do is take them to my mommas house for the best Food ever. My mom is the best cook in the world, hands down. There has been plenty of times when me or my brother Tony would pull up to pick up a plate of food and our friends would ask us if our mom can send a extra plate out for them. They know how good her food is, and they knew we weren’t going to share our plates. Next, i would take them around the city to see the culture and tap in with Blazo to see what the move is. He is one of the biggest event promoters in the area and always sells out his events. In between time, since Beloit is sort of in the middle of a few places, i would take them to Milwaukee or Chicago to shop for some gear. After that we would have pull up to Madison for Ians pizza or Rocky rococo’s for some of the best pizza. Then, we would slide over to Hayes place, my cousins dwight and connee’s club. To end it off ride back down to Beloit and top it off by going to my sister Tarina’s event hall, Intimate Affairs, for a chill vibe and fire food. Just being real it really ain’t too much to do in beloit, so if you’re with me, we definitely going to hit a few city’s in a few days because of how close they are.. side note’ can’t forget about Tilley’s pizza. Even if you just passing through, i highly recommend you stop there fasho.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
