We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisia Groves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daisia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I’ve always had a passion for beauty, makeup, and being my own boss, haha. As a child, I remember making mini (what I then thought were) business plans for clothing lines, dance studios, makeup brands, fashion shows and much more. I’ve always had entrepreneurial career goals, and knew deep down inside that I was made to be a creator. Once I became a freshman at Tennessee State University in the fall of 2016 I became a freelance makeup artist. I must say, I touched a great amount of faces during my tenure there. Having such a large clientele gave me the push I needed to finally establish my own business. DaeontheSlay Beauty, a cosmetic brand was born in January of 2020. I made sure my brand was at every single pop up shop TSU hosted as well as surrounding areas in Nashville, TN. Being a business owner has always been a huge goal of mine, I thank God for my success thus far, but I won’t stop here! Once my business started to expand, my personal brand began expanding also. I now enjoy sharing my favorite beauty products, makeup hacks, things to do and fashion trends and I love the inquiries I get from supporters/social media friends. I just love the fact that I can be myself, do what I love all while making a difference and helping others. Soon, I see myself being a well known social media influencer and business owner.. It’s all about trusting the process.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I believe what sets me most apart from others is my ability to master any skill I set my mind to. I’ve always been blessed to be able to learn/catch on quickly, and I truly feel like this characteristic has allowed me to successfully showcase my creativity through many different avenues. When I set my mind to becoming a makeup artist and beauty influencer I was not sure how I’d come up with the resources to do so but I never let things like that stop me. I always did what I could with what I had. I thank God for blessing me with the grit and talent to make things happen on my own! I was (and still am) the photographer, editor, supply chain manager, marketing manager, etc. for my brand. I have a vision that I am determined to bring to life, I plan to create until I can’t anymore!

I want to be remembered as the goal-oriented business woman that I am. A passionate, hardworking, trailblazing diva who walks divinely in her purpose. I aspire to inspire young women/men around me to be their most confident self with my products, social media content and natural aurora.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question! If you know me, you know this is right up my alley. The perfect weekend in Nashville, to me, would have to start on Friday with an early dinner at BarTaco. They have this sort of “cheers to the weekend” type of vibe that speaks to my soul every time. Afterwards, I’d head to WKND hang suite for happy hour and a little more nightlife type of fun. Saturday would start fresh with breakfast at Liberty Common followed by a little walk in Centennial Park. Once the day turns to night, I’d make reservations for Eddie V’s Prime Seafood. They have one of the most beautiful atmosphere’s in the city, a divine menu with the perfect location: Broadway Street.

Sunday Funday is one of the most liveliest days in the city of Nashville, there’s so much to do! Of course, you have to start with brunch! Minerva Ave. is one of my favorite spots for brunch because their food is amazing, they have hookah, and the outdoor patio gives me all the summer feels! After brunch I’d head over to Broadway and hang out on the rooftop of Whiskey Row. Nashville’s energy on Sunday’s is unmatched.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people and things that have helped & contributed to the success in my life thus far, and I am forever grateful that God has placed such powerful people in my family and friend groups. However, I’d love to Shoutout my Mom, Dominque Groves! She has always known what my passions were even before I knew myself, and pushed me to accomplish anything I set my mind to. She always encouraged me to wear my hair however I wanted to or to dress for myself and not for others. Even now, She constantly reminds me to be unapologetically me. Her fearlessness inspires me even to this day.
