We had the good fortune of connecting with Dai S. (Lady Boss Dai) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dai S., what matters most to you?

Our personal core values are the invisible threads woven into the fabric of our being, shaping our beliefs, relationships, and every decision we make. They are the compass guiding us through life’s complexities, leading us towards a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. For me, these values are the foundation upon which I build my art, both as an educator and a storyteller.

My core values, **Community, Communication, Creativity, and Progression**, are the guiding principles that have illuminated my path and unlocked my potential. They are the driving forces behind my actions, shaping my thoughts, opinions, and behaviors, ultimately leading me to embrace the artist within.

**Community** is the bedrock of my existence. The emphasis on collaboration and inclusivity allows me to see the impact of my work beyond myself, creating ripples of positive change within my community. Being actively engaged, whether through coaching a local baseball team, hosting a dance class, volunteering at the library, or simply listening to a friend’s woes, fosters respect and solidarity. It reminds me that we are all interconnected, each playing a vital role in the collective tapestry of life.

**Communication** is the bridge that connects us, allowing us to share our stories, ideas, and emotions. It enables us to learn from each other, fostering understanding and empathy. Through clear and open communication, I strive to create a space where differences are celebrated, and perspectives are valued. It is through communication that I can reach out, connect, and inspire others.

**Creativity** is the spark that ignites my soul. It is the force that drives me to express myself, to explore new ideas, and to challenge conventional thinking. Whether it is through the written word, the movement of dance, or the vibrant hues of paint, creativity allows me to translate my emotions and experiences into art, leaving a lasting impression on the world.

**Progression** is the constant drive to evolve, to learn, and to grow. It is the commitment to continuous improvement, both within myself and within my community. It encourages me to seek new knowledge, embrace challenges, and strive for excellence in all that I do. Progression is not just about reaching the peak, but about the journey itself, the constant striving for betterment.

These four core values are not merely abstract concepts but living principles that guide my everyday actions. They shape the way I interact with my students, the stories I choose to tell, and the impact I wish to make on the world. They are the invisible hand that steers me towards my life’s purpose, reminding me of what truly matters. By embracing my core values, I have gained a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me. They have helped me unlock my potential, allowing me to flourish as an artist and contribute meaningfully to my community. As I continue to grow, I am committed to upholding these values, allowing them to guide me towards a life filled with purpose, creativity, and connection.

The human experience is a tapestry woven with threads of individual journeys and collective endeavors. While we navigate our personal paths of self-discovery and exploration, the role of community becomes paramount in fostering progress and shaping our collective future. This essay argues that honesty, integrity, and accountability are the cornerstones of a supportive community that values individual differences, encourages continuous learning, and promotes innovation and knowledge-sharing.

At its core, community thrives on the exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives. It is a crucible where diverse methods, techniques, and approaches to learning are shared, enriching our understanding and pushing the boundaries of our knowledge. This exchange, however, requires an environment built on trust and respect. Honesty acts as the foundation, allowing for genuine communication and the sharing of authentic insights. Integrity ensures that actions align with words, fostering a sense of reliability and accountability within the community. This, in turn, encourages individuals to take ownership of their contributions and learn from both successes and failures.

The value of individual differences within a community is not merely a matter of tolerance but a source of strength. By embracing diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds, we create a fertile ground for innovation and creativity. This diversity of thought allows us to challenge assumptions, explore new avenues, and develop solutions that benefit all members of the community.

Continuous learning and knowledge-sharing are essential components of a thriving community. Observational learning, as mentioned in the prompt, plays a crucial role, enabling us to learn from the actions and outcomes of others. This process, however, is most effective when individuals are encouraged to reflect on their own behaviors and understand how they interact with their environment. The call to ‘check yourself’ is a powerful reminder that self-awareness is integral to personal growth and collective progress.

It is important to acknowledge that the concept of community extends beyond geographical boundaries. In today’s interconnected world, online platforms and virtual communities provide opportunities for individuals to connect with like-minded people across the globe, sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration. The principles of honesty, integrity, and accountability remain essential in these virtual spaces, ensuring that online communities are built on a foundation of trust and respect.

Ultimately, a supportive community that values individual differences and promotes continuous learning is not merely a desirable goal but a necessity in our ever-evolving world. By embracing honesty, integrity, and accountability, we create an environment where individuals can thrive, share their knowledge, and contribute to the collective good. In this spirit of collaboration and shared learning, we can collectively move forward, shaping a future that is both prosperous and inclusive.

Creativity, a concept often associated with artistic expression, is, in reality, a far more encompassing and potent force. It permeates every aspect of life, from the mundane to the extraordinary, serving as a driving force behind innovation, problem-solving, and personal growth. This essay will delve into the multifaceted nature of creativity, exploring its impact on my own life and its profound implications for the human experience.

While creativity is often mistakenly confined to the realm of art, it extends far beyond the brushstrokes of a painter or the melodies of a musician. It is the spark that ignites innovative solutions to complex problems, the engine that drives strategic planning and goal setting, and the compass that guides us through the labyrinth of possibilities. Creativity manifests itself in the way we approach challenges, the way we communicate, the way we listen, and the way we interact with the world around us.

In my own journey, creativity has been a transformative force. It has kindled my curiosity, fostered my imagination, and sparked a sense of dedication to exploring new horizons. Through creative endeavors, I have developed a deeper understanding of myself and the world, learning to empathize with others and appreciate their unique perspectives. This empathy, in turn, has fostered compassion and strengthened my ability to connect with others on a meaningful level.

However, the impact of creativity extends far beyond emotional and intellectual growth. It is a catalyst for self-confidence and self-sufficiency, empowering individuals to embrace change and tackle challenges with optimism and discipline. The very act of creating, of bringing something new into existence, strengthens our belief in ourselves and our ability to make a difference.

The misconception that creativity is solely confined to artistic pursuits is a disservice to its true potential. It is a vital component of active listening, critical thinking, research techniques, and collaborative dialogue. It fosters a healthy social life by encouraging open communication and fostering a sense of shared purpose. Creativity is not merely a tool for individual expression; it is a bridge that connects us to others and enriches our collective experience.

Ultimately, creativity is more than just a skill or a talent; it is a fundamental aspect of being human. It is the driving force behind progress, the fuel for innovation, and the seedbed for personal growth. Through creativity, we learn to see the world in new ways, to imagine possibilities beyond the limitations of the present, and to build a better future for ourselves and for generations to come.

Plainly put, creativity is not a luxury, but a necessity. It is the key to unlocking our full potential, to embracing the unknown, and to making our mark on the world. By nurturing our creativity, we not only enrich our own lives, but also contribute to a more vibrant, innovative, and compassionate society. It is a powerful force that deserves to be recognized, celebrated, and cultivated in all its forms.

In the tapestry of human interaction, communication emerges as the vibrant thread that binds us together. It is not merely a means of conveying information, but a powerful force that shapes our relationships, fosters understanding, and drives progress. I believe that communication, in its multifaceted forms, stands as an essential core value for all individuals, regardless of their professional or personal pursuits.

Beyond simple information exchange, communication serves as the bedrock of human connection. It empowers us to initiate and sustain meaningful conversations, fostering a sense of belonging and shared experience. This process requires not only the ability to express oneself clearly but also the crucial skill of active listening. By truly hearing and interpreting another person’s perspective, we demonstrate respect and empathy, paving the way for genuine understanding and compassion.

Effective communication is a hallmark of leadership. It reflects qualities such as honesty, integrity, and responsibility, essential for building trust and inspiring others. When individuals feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences, they create an atmosphere of openness and collaboration, leading to more effective problem-solving and innovative solutions.

The value of shared knowledge is intrinsically linked to communication. By teaching and communicating our experiences and insights, we contribute to the collective wisdom of humanity. This exchange of information fosters intellectual growth, challenges preconceived notions, and expands our understanding of the world.

Communication also plays a pivotal role in promoting cultural diversity. It enables us to engage in dialogues that bridge cultural divides, fostering respect, understanding, and appreciation for different perspectives. By actively listening to diverse voices and engaging in meaningful conversations, we challenge our own biases and develop a broader, more inclusive worldview.

The power of communication extends beyond interpersonal relationships. It allows us to engage in healthy debates, address difficult topics, and gain a deeper understanding of reality. Through communication, we can analyze historical events, explore artistic expressions, and create new forms of art and knowledge. It empowers us to compose new melodies, reconstruct narratives, and develop fresh symbols that shape our collective understanding of the world.

In conclusion, communication is not merely a skill, but a fundamental core value that underpins our personal and professional lives. It fosters connection, builds trust, promotes understanding, and empowers us to navigate the complexities of human interaction. By prioritizing communication in all its forms, we unlock the potential for meaningful relationships, intellectual growth, and a more inclusive and harmonious society.

As an artist, educator, and writer, I find myself at the intersection of creativity, education, and communication. My journey has been fueled by a deep-seated passion for using art and words to inspire and educate, not just children in the classroom, but individuals across all walks of life. This paper will explore how my multifaceted approach, encompassing creative storytelling, poetry, and professional writing, allows me to share unique and relatable narratives that spark curiosity, imagination, and dialogue.

My journey began in the classroom, where I discovered the transformative power of art and storytelling. Through creative-storytelling and poetry, I ignited the imaginations of young minds, fostering a love for language and a deeper understanding of the world around them. The classroom became a canvas for exploration, where words painted vibrant pictures, and stories sparked critical thinking and empathy.

However, my artistic expression extended beyond the classroom walls. I embarked on a self-taught journey as a professional writer, serving clients across diverse industries. This experience allowed me to hone my skills in crafting compelling narratives for a wider audience, encompassing everything from marketing materials to resumes. I learned the art of adapting my voice and style to suit different purposes, while always maintaining a focus on clarity, impact, and engaging the reader.

This dual role as an educator and professional writer has been instrumental in shaping my self-published author journey. My writing allows me to explore themes that resonate with me, crafting stories and poems that delve into the human experience, celebrate the beauty of the world, and encourage introspection. My goal is to create pieces that transcend mere entertainment, fostering dialogue and sparking deeper reflection in my readers.

My work stands as a testament to the power of art and words to transcend boundaries and inspire change. I believe that art is not confined to canvases or museums, but rather exists in every form of creative expression, including the written word. Through my writing, I aim to:

* **Ignite imaginations:** Whether it’s a fantastical tale for a child or a persuasive argument for a client, my writing strives to capture the reader’s attention and transport them to new worlds.

* **Foster empathy and understanding:** By exploring diverse perspectives and emotions, my stories aim to bridge divides and promote understanding between individuals.

* **Empower individuals:** My work for job seekers empowers them to articulate their skills and experiences effectively, increasing their chances of success in the professional world.

My journey is a testament to the interconnectedness of art, education, and communication. By embracing these diverse roles, I strive to make a positive impact on the world, one story, one poem, one well-crafted piece of writing at a time. My ultimate goal is to inspire others to embrace their own creativity and use it to make a difference in the world, remembering that art is more than just a canvas with color or famous paintings; it is a powerful tool for education, inspiration, and connection.

From the tender age of childhood, I held a secret yearning – a desire for love, clarity, and peace of mind. These yearnings, much like the whispers of the wind, found their voice in the art of writing. It wasn’t about accumulating material possessions; it was about pouring my soul onto paper, transforming raw emotions into tangible art. Poetry, with its rhythm and rhyme, became my sanctuary, a space where I could explore the complexities of life and grapple with my own identity.

My early years were filled with a quiet passion, a world of words nurtured in solitude. I felt a deep sensitivity in my writing, a vulnerability that I guarded fiercely. Sharing my work felt like exposing a hidden part of myself, a risk I wasn’t ready to take. The fear of judgment, the fear of not being understood, kept my words locked away, a secret treasure buried deep within me.

It was during middle school that the world began to truly unfold before me. The experiences, both joyous and painful, sparked a fire within me, a desire to understand my place in the tapestry of life. This newfound awareness, coupled with the gradual dismantling of my self-imposed walls, led me to embrace the transformative power of sharing.

The act of writing wasn’t just a solitary pursuit; it became a bridge connecting me to others. My life experiences, etched onto paper, served as a map guiding me through the labyrinth of emotions. The words I penned became my compass, leading me to clarity and a profound sense of peace.

Today, I find immense fulfillment in guiding young minds on their own creative journeys. As an educator, I am committed to fostering an environment where children can express themselves freely, where their voices are heard, and their imaginations are nurtured. My goal is to instill in them the confidence to embrace their unique talents and to navigate the world with an open heart.

Sharing my passion for writing, for the power of pen and paper, has become a mission. I believe that every individual has a story to tell, a unique perspective to share. By encouraging young learners to explore their own creativity, I hope to inspire a generation of storytellers, artists, and dreamers.

This journey, fueled by the transformative power of words, has taught me that vulnerability is not weakness but strength. It is through sharing our stories, our vulnerabilities, and our dreams that we forge genuine connections and create a world where every voice is heard and celebrated. And that, I believe, is the true essence of a positive impact.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist, I love using my creativity to teach and share stories.

Through my work, I aim to inspire and educate others about the power of art and words. I find joy in creating pieces that spark curiosity and imagination in my audience. I am excited to be able to share my writing with others and make a positive impact through my storytelling. I began writing poetry when I was just a child. I grew up with strong writing abilities, but once I reached middle school, I tapped into the world of poetry. It was during my time in middle school that I fully began seeing what the world was like and how I fit into it. For a while, my writing was kept private; I didn’t trust anyone to know the deep parts of me.

As a child, I wanted so much, and I’m not referring to clothes, shoes, nor any other materialistic possession; I wanted love, clarity, peace of mind. I fell in love… with writing, and transforming my words into art. I was able to create poetry from the things I’ve seen, heard, felt… my own life experiences. My life experiences, written down on paper, provided me clarity. Ultimately, writing became my peace of mind.

Being an educator allows me to guide and support youth on their academic and creative journeys. I strive to create a safe and encouraging space where children can express themselves freely, while instilling in them the knowledge necessary for their growth and future achievements. By sharing my knowledge and skills with others, I hope to nurture a community of learners who are passionate. I feel fulfilled knowing that I am helping to shape and empower young children .

As a writer, I take pride in sharing my stories and ideas with the world. It is a fulfilling experience to connect with readers through my words and evoke emotions and thoughts. I believe that through my writing, I can inspire others to explore their creativity and embrace their unique voice. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my work and contribute to my community in a way that is mostly overlooked and under-appreciated.

I am most proud of being a self-published author and educating youth every single day. I take pride in service and impact through my writing because my writing is the service I provide to my audience and the reactions and outpour of love and support from everyone is the impact. Educating our youth is my service and the improvements, growth, and urge to be in the classroom is the impact I leave on these children.

With writing, I tend to focus on awareness and empowerment considering many people do not realize how much of a positive impact togetherness and unity could have on a society still trying to find its way. Service and impact are two main factors to live by. Service is the lifeblood behind every brand because everything flows from it, while impact is the key to ensuring success.

I wholeheartedly believe I am where I am right now because I am fueled with hunger and eagerness to be better today than I was yesterday. Why? Everyday is an opportunity to conquer the world and all that it offers! My personal life experiences shaped me into Lady Boss Dai. I significantly remember most-to-all the times I cried out to God for signs and clues about my purpose. I was able to see more clearly once I placed my faith in God Himself and allowed Him to do His work on me. Without God, I AM NOTHING, and I firmly stand on this because there were many times I wanted to give up and several times I actually did find myself giving up on life completely. I cannot even imagine trying to give up today because even with the bad, there’s still so much good in my life. I owe that to God. I involve Him in every aspect of my life… professionally, personally, in my relationships and friendships, in my thought-process, decision-making, etc. I will always seek God for approval before anything. Along the way, I’ve learned that giving up is giving up my faith and I could never turn my back on myself ever again. I’ve learned to never dim my talents and abilities to make someone else feel more capable. I’ve learned that mistakes do happen and that I am NOT a mistake. I’ve learned that God is my driving force of EVERYTHING.

I have 3 new books dropping very soon, and I owe that to God. Because of Him, I can capable! Because of Him, I am the Educator & Author I am. Because of Him, I am the Woman I need to be… for ME!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

What deserves some credit and recognition are my two self-published poetry collections: ‘Defying the Odds: More Than a Conqueror, Always a Warrior’ and ‘I Was Just… A Little Too Black.’ These books, born from my own personal experiences and deeply rooted in social consciousness, offer powerful narratives that resonate with communities often marginalized and silenced.

**’Defying the Odds: More Than a Conqueror, Always a Warrior’** delves into the realities of Black and Brown communities, confronting issues like racial prejudice, gun violence, betrayal, failed relationships, and mental health. I utilized raw poetry, drawing from lived experiences, to create a space for vulnerability and shared understanding. Each poem represents a distinct theme, weaving a tapestry of struggles and triumphs. The collection serves as a beacon of hope, reminding readers that they are not alone in their experiences and that collective strength can overcome adversity.

**’I Was Just… A Little Too Black’** draws inspiration from the life and legacy of Angela Davis, a renowned activist and intellectual. This book celebrates the multifaceted nature of Black women, recognizing their inherent strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to social justice. Through poignant poetry, I explored the diverse experiences of Black women, highlighting their roles as pillars of support, changemakers, and nurturers. By channeling Davis’s spirit, the collection pays homage to her unwavering commitment to equality and her pioneering work in dismantling systemic oppression.

The choice of October 29th, 2020, for the official release of ‘I Was Just… A Little Too Black’ is significant. This date marks the anniversary of the National Organization for Women’s (NOW) adoption of their Statement of Purpose, a document dedicated to achieving equality for all women. My decision to align the release with this historical event underscores the book’s commitment to advocating for women’s rights and social justice.

The self-publication of these works hold immense significance. It empowers me to control my OWN narrative, ensuring that my voice and perspective are authentically represented. Self-publishing also allows for greater accessibility, reaching audiences that might not be served by traditional publishing houses. These books here? They demonstrate the power of independent voices to challenge societal norms, spark dialogue, and inspire change.

‘Defying the Odds: More Than a Conqueror, Always a Warrior’ and ‘I Was Just… A Little Too Black’ are not just poetry collections; they are testaments to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of self-expression. These books offer a glimpse into the lived experiences of marginalized communities, promoting empathy, understanding, and a collective call for justice. By choosing self-publication, I empower my voice and ensure that my message reaches a wider audience. These books stand as testaments to the transformative power of poetry and the importance of amplifying marginalized voices.
