We had the good fortune of connecting with Daesia Joiner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daesia, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
The end goal for me is to be able to successfully merge all my of passions together into either one or multiple businesses. I want to be my own boss by the end of my career and I want to help people who look like me. I want to be voice for young black women. I want to be a household name.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart is that i’m authentically me, my personality shines bright through anything that I do. What I’m most proud of is my House of Hoops campaign that I did this year. It was honestly surreal to be able to work with a company like House of Hoops and be able to create my own vision for the shoot. I think i’ve gotten to where i am today from consistency, persistence, patience, and tough love. It’s definitely not easy, because there are times when I get so caught in my head and get in my own way. Tough love is how I’ve overcome the challenges, having those tough talks with myself and with others to hold myself accountable. I think some lessons I’ve learned along the way are time waits for no one, and to stop caring so much about what others think. I want the world to know that it took me quite a long time to be comfortable with being my most authentic self.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I would take them to the Little Five points area. We would start in Little Five and go into the shoe store there, then the crystal store, and Arden Garden to seal the deal. I would then make my way to Inman Park and go to the clothing stores and resell shops. Most importantly I would go to Bar Taco, because I love their tacos and Key Lime pie. I would then venture to Krog Street and Ponce City Market.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, everyone in my life has played a part in my story. My friends and family have always believed in me and supported me. Whether they were buying me a pair of shoes to do a review on, or even letting me do reviews on their shoes if I wasn’t able to score the shoe on the release date. I could go on and on, but everyone in my life deserves recognition for the unconditional love they have given me.
