We had the good fortune of connecting with DaeQuan Hargraves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DaeQuan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Everything around us is music. From the sound you hear when we walk, to the voice we speak with and even down to the sounds you hear in quiet nature. I’ve always been fascinated with rhythm and basslines. So as a kid I would write poetry to beats that I heard in my head. Trying to mock them banging on countertops.(annoying my mom lol) We were always a musical family so I guess it’s just in my blood.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So at the base of everything I am a producer. I first started everything making beats on my phone. Placing loops together in GarageBand, coming up with concepts and trying to manipulate the sounds to because something else. I would play them to my boyfriend and he would critic and we would go head to head to see who could come up with the best beat. One day I started putting words to these beats and that sparked the flame under men. There I was 22 years old and actually ready to take on this music journey. I struggled because although I had the talent, ideas and drive, making music is not cheap. Once things got a little better I was gifted with my first MacBook. From there I had to teach myself how to work LOGIC and how to record etc. Today I’m still learning but I put out my first single “Lost Ones” written, recorded and produced by me and the rest just started to fall in place. I began writing more to perfect my craft. I moved more into the writing and artistry of things once I seen the response to my music.

I LOVE Anatolia! It’s a Mediterranean lounge. The vibe and the food is amazing.
