Meet Cyrus Nelson | Mixed Media Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cyrus Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cyrus, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Life presents us all with choices, some riskier than others. The decision to dedicate all of my time and energy into being an independent artist not only requires risk taking but more importantly resiliency to battle the storms. After being furloughed and eventually terminated from my corporate job due to the pandemic I decided to take a leap of faith and exclusively focus on my art. I was filled with anxiety and palpable fear, but I followed my heart. When taking risks you have to be brave and have faith in whatever you believe in. You have to believe in yourself and let nothing stop you.
Fortunately, I have been able to create work that inspires others nationwide as well as overseas. I thank God for allowing me to express my creativity and positively impact people during this unprecedented time. The responses I’ve received from those who have procured my work encourages me to keep going.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a mixed media artist that sees my compositions as unions of textures, shapes, patterns, and colors that speak to the soul. My use of paint and collage create images that seemingly reach out from his canvases. The artistic use of creativity in the field of Interactive Design, to my most recent mixed media paintings, I express my love for form and movement. I find inspiration in relationships, travel, music, art and family.
As a young child, I always wanted to share my creativity and passion with the world. I knew art had to be the foundation in whatever I did as an adult. Art does a lot for the soul. It can evoke so many emotions for an individual. Many collectors have shared with me that my art brings them joy and positivity with a bit of whimsy. My goal is not only to spark these emotions in others but ultimately I want my work to inspire others to express their creativity for many generations to come. That is what I want my legacy to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a rollercoaster junkie ;therefore, I love amusement parks. A day would consist of us visiting Six Flags Over Georgia for some thrills. The food scene is a must in Atlanta. Poor Calvin’s is on the top of my list for unique and authentic flavors for a nice meal and cocktails before hitting West Midtown for a night out. Also, we would spend a day walking and touring the art on the Atlanta Belt Line and ending the day in Piedmont Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my Shoutout to my parents for always believing in me.
