We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Decker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cynthia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started LiviRae Lingerie in 2006 to help all women. It is named after my daughter Rainey and mollys daughter Olivia. We saw a need for all sizes and body types to be helped. We also wanted to be able to help mastectomy patients. I have been in this business since I was 18. It has been my passion as well as my career. LiviRae was never given a loan so molly Hopkins and I started this business on my personal credit, after being denied loans from several banks. As two women opening a small business, we thought we would be able to get help, but it was not easy. Everything we have done has been the hard way. We were lucky to land a lifetime series in 2010 called Double divas. This show was on our store and the many women we help. This opened up our small business to become internationally known. We continue to help all women around the world. We do virtual fittings as we can look at people and know their size. This helped us during Covid when we had to close the store. We are also now able to help everyone who has access to video chat.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I went to The American College for the Applied Arts in London, England. I grew up wanting to be a designer. I started designing at a young age. I would go in my nana’s attic and play in her clothes and make outfits out of the materials that were there. My mother worked for the college so I was able to go to work with her and sit in on classes. I learned so much. I started working at Intimacy as a high school job and then when I moved to England I worked for Rigby & Peller who make the queens bras. There I truly learned bra fit and how to alter bras. I now design for my store and have a line called Maxie Mahlon. I would love to have a bra line one day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since Covid things have definitely been different. I don’t go out as much anymore. I am kind of a home body or I like to be in nature. One of my favorite restaurants is Capers in kennesaw ga. They have amazing jazz on Friday and Saturday nights and the best southern Cajun soul food ever! If you are downtown, and like a bit of a unique experience, The Garden Room is wonderful.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this to my children Rainey and Chase as they are the reason I kept going even in the midst of defeat and trials. They are why I did not give up.
