We had the good fortune of connecting with Curtis Jean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Curtis, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I never really thought about starting my own business in photography because I always felt like there was a better way to improve my work. I wanted to put out the most professional work but realized your work can be professional in your own eyes.. Some of my work I was unsatisfied about however my colleges friends and family just loved it. They seen that I had the ability to turn an image Into my own piece of art. Which pushed myself further to start a business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I never settle for average work I will re-edit something until I get it right or until the client is satisfied. Most people out there doing camera work will hand off work to a business or a client just for compensation but have to realize your business is your face it all matters. I am mostly excited about my future projects Music videos, short films, phototshoots it’s exciting to know someone is trusting you with their vision or your own vision. I’ve been on and off in the photography/ videography game about 4 years. Not solid years but during the pandemic I took my craft so much more seriously seeing people my age successfully doing it and making business out of it.
I felt like I had the same potential and resources. I want the world to know to never give up on your dreams its a reason you push further everyday keep going! there never is a finish line just improvement.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My motivation came from YouTube itself I’d watch videos all day on how to edit a video or a picture. Sometimes it would be easy to learn certain things at times I’d feel like it just wasn’t for me. I never gave up I’d like to give my credit to youtubers like Kingstutspro, Ryan Nangle, Justin Craig and many more. They all have taught me a lot I didn’t know about film and photography itself.
