We had the good fortune of connecting with Curtia Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Curtia, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from St. Thomas USVI. I want to say my background and upbringing impacted who i am today because I’m one of the many virgin islanders that brought our culture to America. How did I bring my culture to America? I brought my culture thru my business Come Back Eats and Treats, LLC. At CBET we offer a variety of homemade cake, tarts, butter bread, dumb bread and much more. in the near future we hope to expand and be able to offer more of our local homemade traditional foods.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from everyone is my willingness to never give and my determination to fulfil all my customers desire and more. I love to see the customers reactions when they see their cakes, receive their food and treats it just warms my heart every time. Here at CBET everything is made with love because we keep the faith and trust the process in all that we do, so why not eat with us. The thing I can say that I’m beyond proud of is my growth because when I started my decorations skills was definitely on beginners’ level, but I was very determined to get on the intermediate level and now i surpass that and I’m in my advance stages and I can give all praises to my willingness to never give up on myself. I’m very excited to see what the future holds for my family and me. I have some grand ideas that I’m putting into play for CBET and my family, but I have to find the right investors. How did I get here? Good question, I got here because of my oldest son who asked me to bake him a cake for his birthday back in 2018 and who am I to tell no. so me being me went to the store got my ingredients came back home and he got his birthday cake made by mommy. What i can tell you is that cake was very taste full but if you had to judge it by it looks you’ve never eaten it lol. “You can visit my Instagram page tagged below to view the cake.” Since the cake tasted good it became a whole thing let’s get a cake from Tia at this point no one really cared how the cake looked besides me they just wanted a good tasting cake from back home (St. Thomas, VI) and just that is what I would give them to this very day. The only thing that has changed for me is my decorations skills they have improved so much I surprise myself every time. This was definitely not and easy road for and still isn’t easy, but I’ve learned a long time ago nothing in this thing called life comes easy so if YOU really want it YOU have to go out and get it for YOURSELF because NOONE is going to go and get it for you or do it for you beside YOU. I’ve had many sleepless nights and having to start over because something didn’t come out correctly. Now I don’t have too much sleepless nights because I’ve found my groove from then to now. when I started i use to only take 1 cake per day or every 2 days because I was so slow now i can knocked 2-3 cake per day sometimes more depending on what kind of cake and decorations I have to do. What a lot of people don’t realize is how much time commitment the job requires and it’s not just the cake you are paying for, you have to also pay for our time. When I started this the whole cake making ordeal it wasn’t to start a business it was just for me to be able to have good tasting cake at arm’s reach and so that my children can know my culture. Caribbean food and treats were and is still one of the hardest things to come by in America and I’m slowly going to change that!
One thing I’ve learn since I’ve started within the food industry is that it is always changing, and it is important for you to learn and grow with it so you can keep up with what your customers expects from you. I want the world to know that Come Back Eats and Treats love to see everyone winning, I want us to change the way we look at things for example instead of us bringing down each other lets uplift each other, instead of us saying we are copying each other why not say I’m inspiring them to grow. In life we all copy someone else you weren’t the first person to think about that thought that just popped into your head, you just haven’t seen it until now and that’s just the algorithm of life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me i am a home body I don’t go out much I’m all about doing fun things at home with the family getting in the quality time. Some fun spots such as the Georgia Aquarium, CandyTopia, six flags, world of coca cola, sugar factory, Nanas Chicken and Waffle, Come Back Eats & Treats, LLC

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person I would like to give the most recognition to is my husband Akeem “BamBam” Roberts. He is my number one supporter, helper and everything all wrapped up in one, He helps me out with everything from getting the kids ready for bed. taking out ingredients, and to trying his utmost best to stay up late with me. The funny thing is he has been upgraded from just taking out ingredients to now a full-time tart and pate maker. My husband means everything to me and without him by my side I wouldn’t have been able to make it thus far and for that I’m very grateful to him. I Love You and Thank You!
