We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Coming from a media startup, I knew my next step would be starting a company. I was open to ideas and problems to solve and was looking for the right thing. I came into this idea from the client perspective – I was doing an okay job at managing my stress level. I love massages. I felt like there should be a brand I felt connected to for such an important self-care ritual. I didn’t feel like there was a team or brand that was actively speaking to ME as a consumer, and I figured if I felt that way others would, too! Once I learned more about the industry, I realized that the biggest problem to solve was not having enough places that were exceptionally great to work for massage therapists – that became our new north star pretty quickly.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mood House offers the massage membership for high-performers. We’re focused on the mind-body connection and helping individuals who need self care – but may be putting it on a serious back burner – prioritize time for themselves each month!

I’m proud of the way that we stay oriented in the right direction and one that feels true to this mission, but are also willing to change and adapt quickly to meet what our audience needs and wants the most. It’s easy to dig in your heels with an idea you like, but you have to put what’s working best first, period. We’ve learned to “rip the bandaid” on anything that’s not working quickly. For example, when we opened we offered a seated massage option that had a few loyal fans but wasn’t gaining traction. It was also a service that our team really didn’t enjoy. We made the decision to eliminate the service and didn’t look back.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m forever grateful to my business partner Ted Williams for believing in my vision and being willing to jump in to a new industry based on that trust.
