We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Rhodes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal is to leave a legacy that my daughter, family, and community will feel inspired by and better off because they were apart of it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At C&D | The Agency, my partner Dina Marto and I joined forces to disrupt marketing and brand building as it relates to marrying cultural icons and business innovators with their consumers, audiences, and blue-chip marketers. What sets us apart is that we’re a woman led agency staffed by multicultural women with vast experiences in music, entertainment, business, sports, marketing, and the media. I”ve gotten to where I am in 2020 by staying the course and continuing to be curious to learn new marketing tools, technology, and best-practices. I’m blessed to get to do what I love and am good at about 50% of the time which comes naturally and is easy. The other 50% of the time is more challenging. It’s spent managing and balancing a lot of relationships and business responsibilities that are more often than not, not easy. I overcome the challenges by remembering why I do what I do and staying committed to our Agency’s mission and our clients’ goals. I’ve learned to be present and approach every day and projects with a solutions-driven approach. I want the world to know that there’s room for us all to be happy, fulfilled, and successful in our own rights; and that supporting and giving fuel to someone else’s fire doesn’t dim your own light.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start the weekend right with a cozy evening at Gio DiPalma’s newest hot spot, Casa Tropicale. We’d eat his famous chargrilled oysters, house salad, and have the wood-oven grilled seafood platter while sipping on his house Sauvignon Blanc. Saturday we’d have the girls come by and we’d all cook our favorite dishes and then hit up Himitsu and enjoy the music and ambiance. On Sunday we’d wrap the weekend with a bike tour of the beltline. We’d check out the art installations along the trail corridor and likely end up on the Westside Trail. We’d then head to Thumbs Up and devour the fried catfish and eggs entree. YES! I find so many people exciting especially the emerging artists and creative community.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my 22-year old daughter, Jala Wilson.
