We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is GOD. Hands down. God is the head of my life and my business. I also have a lot of passion and drive. The only thing that keeps my business growing is the passion I have for what I do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Makeup Artist, Brow Artist, Mentor, and Instructor, teaching women how to make 6 figures in the brow industry. I’m also the Founder of C. Lauren Cosmetics, a Luxury Brow Cosmetic product line. We focus on everything brows, from brow pencils, pomade, brow tint, microshading products such as PMU machines, pigment, mapping string, and more.
The one thing that will set me and my company apart from the others is that I put my heart into everything that I do. Most businesses do things just for the money, but I do it to make a difference. I want women to know they can do anything, and mostly, that they can bounce back from anything. I love to inspire my supporters by sharing my testimonies to let them know that if I can overcome these obstacles, they can too.
I am most proud of my brow academy, it is truly one of my biggest accomplishments. I have taught over 2,500 classes and mentored hundreds of women. Being a positive light to many women has truly blessed me. I am so thankful to be chosen to lead in that area.
My journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. In 2019, I met and hung out with the wrong crowd and I lost myself.
I lost my dreams, aspirations, and goals, and it cost me everything. The following year, I decided to move back home to Atlanta, for a fresh start. I never could have imagined what happened next. We all were hit with the news of COVID and in March 2020, I found out I was pregnant the day after the mandated quarantine.
After receiving the news of becoming a mommy, I was excited but it was overshadowed by knowing that I would be parenting alone. My pregnancy propelled me to rebrand my business and my baby motivates me to strive for greatness every single day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First things first, we are going to brunch! I love Toast on Lennox and Breakfast at Barneys. I heard great things about this breakfast place called Oy, so we would go there also. I love exploring new places, new food so we will go to Ponce City Market or Colony Square. I want to try this new place in Duluth called Fade + Facet so I would definitely go there for a night out. I also heard great things about Divine.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I was getting ready for my junior prom in high school, I booked a makeup artist that went by the name Slim Barbiie. She was the very best, I felt like I was a celebrity. While she was doing my makeup I told her that I wanted to do makeup but I was scared. I told her maybe I’ll do it one day when I get older, I was 17 at the time. She said “stop talking about what you’re going to do and just do it, if you keep talking about what you’re going to do, you will never do it”. That sentence changed my entire life. Two weeks later, I started working in the mall doing makeup. I am now coming up on my ninth year as a professional makeup artist.
