We had the good fortune of connecting with Cory Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cory, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
A creative career kind of found me. This wasn’t something that was a dream of mine, in fact, I didn’t even know it was something that people really did early on. I was volunteering in ministry years ago and we needed some flyers but no one could do it, so I kind of learned. I was horrible at it hahaha, but I did it. Then we needed videos, and so on. As I grew, my passion and talent grew, and then I knew I wanted to use what I’d learned to help others win.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Daniel’s Counsel is a digital media firm, but it’s really about helping others at the heart of it. I believe dreams matter, and in the world we live in, people need resources make dreams reality. Making dreams real means telling your story, introducing yourself to people in a way that matters. That includes graphics and logos, but it’s really strategizing to use digital media to tell your story and accomplish your mission. I’m dedicated to helping people do that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Man, that’s a question! My favorite thing to do with friends is catch a vibe and enjoy good food, so I’m definitely going to get them out to see some sights. I’m not an itinerary type because my schedule can get so fluid, but in general I would plan a major highlight per day. Maybe hit the the view atop Stone Mountain just to get some perspective, grab some BBQ at Fox Brothers in Atlanta after that. I love to drive and take in the scenery and the neighborhoods, my favorite place to do that is in Gwinnett, maybe Lawrenceville. My favorite bite out that way is Taste 8, definitely for the fried rice. I’m not a cocktail person, but Smyrna has this fire little Mexican spot, the name escapes me right now, but I hear the maragaritas are pretty decent, if that’s your thing. I don’t know, I’m a pretty simple guy in terms of places to go, kind of lowkey. What I really like to do is explore, so I’d probably just pick a city each day just go see what undiscovered gems has to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are two very important shoutouts I want give. First, I’d give a shoutout to Pastor Brian Williams of Ecclesia Christian Fellowship who gave me encouragement and room to grow in my earliest days of creating content. It was rough, but he trusted me and let me grow. Then, I’d thank Pastor Gregory Perkins and The View Church, who allowed me to really start working with digital media strategy in addition to graphic design. A lot of what I do is self taught, but these are the people who gave me opportunity, which is has been the greatest give to my development.
