We had the good fortune of connecting with Cory Ricks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cory, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor would have to be my relationship with Jesus Christ. Submitting my will to His will, realizing that everything that I am doing is greater than me and doing my best to love His people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an inspirational artist that loves to make music with a message. What sets me apart is the content and variety of my music. I’m excited about that fact that at Kingdom Wealth Music we are able to make positive music that’s actually lit (enjoyable). After years of making profane street music, I am where I am today because Jesus changed my heart which ultimately changed my music. The transition was very difficult initially because I had done street music so long. I had to go through a process of changing my way of thinking to reflect God’s way of thinking. The only way I was able to successfully do it was to get a better understanding of my Creator which gave me an understanding of why I was created. The greatest lesson I have learned is to not rely on my own understanding but rather trust God and His growth process. What I would want the world to know is that with God, all things are possible to those who believe.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being that I’m from New Orleans, it’s a must that we indulge on some of the local cuisine that I grew up on. We would spend the week enjoying foods like po-boys, crawfish, gumbo, jambalaya, & beignets. For entertainment, while most people would go to Bourbon Street, I would likely take them to Frenchman Street to enjoy live music. Then Magazine Street for some shopping and St. Charles Avenue to hop on the street car and sight see. Finally, I would take them on swamp and city tours for an experience you can’t get anywhere else!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, is my God who gives me grace & mercy daily. Everything I am & all that I have is not by my works, but only by God’s love & grace! Next, is my wife and my children. They have literally supported me through the ups and downs. They stuck by me when they had every reason not to!! Also, my business partner Quinton Butler, who works relentlessly to help bring every vision to manifestation. I may have given up had it not been for his support. My parents also deserve a ton of credit being that they raised me with morals, values, and love. Also, my brothers, who encouraged and loved me through it all. Lastly, to every producer & artist who I’ve been blessed to work with. Especially the late & great, Niyo, who was the first producer to believe in me!
