Meet Cortney Morris | Personal Chef & Event Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cortney Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cortney, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The way that I see the world is…. We as people take risk everyday that we wake up and leave our homes. There’s no way to predict from second to second of life if you will get to see another second of life once you are out in the world. What is the difference in that and taking risk to do something that you feel may help you grow, progress, or elevate from your current circumstances?
Risk taking for me has been such an awakening experience. All risks don’t always lead to something good but taking risks, using your better judgement, and your gut feeling usually tells you if there’s going to be a better opportunity on the other side of that decision making process or not.
My current risk taking experience has led me to one of the most amazing opportunities to ever come into my life thus far. I’ve finally gotten the opportunity to express myself and showcase my talents on a larger platform with a broader social network.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a culinary blend of fine dinning and soul food. Coming up as a child, I learned to cook with my heart, but I worked on cleaning up and perfecting my craft with basic culinary techniques. I imagined myself to be a walking testimony of “healing hands” because my cooking is filled with soul and lots of love. The kind of love that brings people closer together over a nicely prepared meal.
One of the main things that sets me apart from others is that I have the ability to connect with people beyond the food that I provide. My gift of compassion, care, and concern always leads me to be in the right place at the right time for the right moment!
It’s moment like those that made me work harder.
Working nonstop around the clock, I was able to build by business by leveraging my social media accounts and networking with people in and outside of my organization.
Each and every day of growing my business was not easy, but I managed to overcome most challenges that I faced by stepping out of my comfort zone and being open to learning things that I didn’t already know. I learned that I had to utilize my current platforms of social media , my large network, and many other small business organizations to help get through this process.
The biggest lesson that I have learned was that you can not do all things alone; it literally takes a team. I could have made the decision to work alone solely, however I chose to bring people along who has the same mission and same mind frame as my self. The team around me helped strengthen my business and expand my clientele beyond means. For them I am thankful.
When I leave this earth, I want the world to know who I am, what my achievements were, and what it was that i was seeking to accomplish. I am determined to leave a legacy of what hard work and determination coupled with the desire to succeed looks like. I want the world to know that I am here.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is one of those places that many people pit stop for business, opportunity, and fun! If I had to take my best friend on an adventure to visit some pretty cool places around ATL, I would be successful in making that happen. One of my favorite places to go in Atlanta is
the Ponce City Roof Top. The environment and atmosphere while being there is amazing. I would also have to include the Belt Line and the MLK Historic District in our places to visit.
During our adventure, we must try some of the top rated eatery places, best bars for drinks, and some of the hottest night clubs/lounges of Atlanta.
Our first stop on the taste tour would be
BQE restaurant and lounge on Edgewood. They have the dopest vibes for their day parties and brunch events. During the evening they would roll out the live band and karaoke for further entertainment.
A great grab and go lunch spot for me is Mr. Everything. We could stop at either location throughout ATL and the food is still pleasing as I expect it to be.
With courtesy of small black owned businesses, it’s a must that we grab a midday snack. Something light, convenient to eat on the go, and also appeasing to the baste buds. I would have to go with my coach Jey Jones & Family’s business BGR Grille in East Point. Every single time that I visit, I’m never disappointed.
The Sun Dial restaurant bar and view is a great stop to enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and watch the sun set. Definitely a way to change directions of the day.
The Sugar Factory on Peachtree Rd. is perfect for an enjoyable moment before making our last stops to end the night. The food there is good, the facility has amazing energy, and the experience lasts forever. It’s a place to treat yourself to some sweets & smiles.
Last but not least on my list of many, would be VVS on old national. This stop usually ends the night with some good music, some good food & drinks, and a good time. It’s time to let our hair down to enjoy the moment!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Although life has gradually pushed me into success, I can not take all of the credit for being here. There has been an organizational group of people who have played different roles in my life to help me continue to strive for greatness and improve for the betterment of my own lifestyle change.
The wisdom and survival skills of life start at home with the roots. My family is the heart and soul of my background and lifestyle. Although I never settled to be only what I was taught to be, I have to thank my family for instilling in me the distinctive characteristics for a successful life.
I have to thank ALL of my teammates and friends, past and present for their continuous support throughout the years. Thankful for my chef mentors; Chef Kendra who gave me my first big catering opportunities that came with an abundance of teachable moments, and also Chef Tony at Tyler Perry Studios who made my network my net worth, if you understand! Big shout out to all of the educators that have come into my life, not only to teach me but to guide me in a direction of complete gratitude.
