We had the good fortune of connecting with Cortney Hendrix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cortney, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Believing in myself and really trusting God. I was so content in life that I was scared to step out on faith. I’ve worked behind the scenes for 3 years straight knowing that my time was coming. I was counting down the months and telling myself mentally when I was going to let my 9-5 job go. The fear and the process that came with all of it. It was a lot and very challenging. But with the grace of God I did it!!!!..I looked back and thank The Lord that I’m finally my own boss. No it’s not easy but it’s rewarding. I have a lot to learn but thankful that I’m at peace with the decision I’ve made to become an entrepreneur.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My services are waxing, facials, and makeup. But I’m known for waxing!!!..When it comes to wax, every wax technician has a technique. Just being honest getting a Brazilian can really hurt. I spealize into hard wax and I take my time. You want the client to feel welcome and comfortable. I try my best to be just that. I love to make my clients laugh to set the atmosphere. The lessons I’m learning is keeping up with the wax and wax products. That’s what I spend the most on. When I started it was very challenging but now I got it under control. I go through 60 pounds of wax every month. So waxing keeps me pretty busy. When it comes to Skin Glow Esthetic’s Beauty Bar, it’s deeper then just getting a service. I love my clients dearly and have a great relationship with them. It can get personal and also for me when I need to vent. We got each other backs. I love how they give me ideas and promote me as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I will take her to Savannah, Ga. We will visit the Pink House restaurant. They have some amazing food. After we eat I will take her on River street. Where we will walk and visit stores just spend quality time with each other.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Giving thanks to my Father in Heaven for seeing something in me that I couldn’t see in myself. Thanking my Husband Wesley Hendrix for always having my back and investing into our business with me. For believing that I could really do this and for seeing the passion I have for our business. I want to thank My Pastor, Melanie Griffin for encouraging me even when I felt like giving up. She stayed on me consistently and poured into me faithfully. I couldn’t have done this without them. They mean the world to me and I’m blessed to have them apart of my life.
