We had the good fortune of connecting with Cortina Peters, LMHC, LPC, CSE, QS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cortina, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I can honestly say that my ability to balance has most definitely changed over time. Growing up, it was ingrained in me to work hard. As I got older, that belief changed and developed into an unhealthy obsession with achievements and perfectionism. It was not until I was diagnosed with cancer (lymphoma) that I learned the power of balance. Facing death allowed me to appreciate the most important things in life and to value the ones I loved. Fast-forward to now, as a business owner, I have had to continue to juggle the importance of balance. Having balance allows you to see your current state more clearly. Meaning when you take time to relax, reset, and refocus, it affords you the ability to be more productive and creative. Balance is a critical piece in the maintenance of emotional and mental wellness. As a business owner, I love the freedom it affords me so that I can prioritize social and professional balance in my life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My name Cortina Peters aka The Girlfriend Therapist TM, and I am an EMDR trained multi- state Licensed Mental Health Counselor who specialized in Sex therapy. I am also an International Life Coach, Best Selling Author, Motivational Strategist, and Mentor who motivates people to win every area of their life. Providing fact-based practices, and strength-based theories, my company, Boundless Living Coaching, Counseling, & Consulting is a specialty counseling firm that deals with the emotional aspect of one’s life.

Services provided by Boundless Living include Coaching, Counseling, and Consulting services. As a leading private practice, we offer an array of personalized education and motivational enhancement services. Unlike others in the field, we ignite and motivate people to go from rest to action to find their winner within. Our methods utilize psychological concepts with reality-based principles to help in the transitional process. The Girlfriend Therapist is also one of the main reasons why individuals contact Boundless Living. The girlfriend therapist is able to provide you with inspiration, motivation, and psychoeducation on ways to unlock, heal and reveal your winner within. Part of the Girlfriend Therapist’s mission is to help destigmatize and dispel myths regarding what it means to go to therapy. However, getting to where I am today, was not a bed of roses.

As a (2) two-time cancer survivor and lupus warrior, I know what it is to see life in a different way. The road to success has not always been the easiest. When I felt as though I was on the right track, it felt as if something would come along to distract my forward progress. I noticed that when I allowed myself to be flexible and free flow, I was better able to deal with unfortunate situations in my life. It is such a blessing to even have this opportunity and still be alive today. It is my mission to ensure that through my work, I help to provide hope to others in dark places. Additionally, with challenges comes the emotional side of self-doubt, self-sabotaging behaviors, and the negative narratives we play over in our heads about our success. I remember when the door to my six-figure salary closed, I was stuck. I thought I would panic and go crazy, but I didn’t. I felt in my heart that something greater was coming and one day, it did. Working through those issues has allowed me to get to a place where I am able to identify when I am operating from a place that is unproductive to my growth as an individual and as a business owner. As we travel this journey called life, we must remember to give ourselves grace.

I made a promise to myself to go after everything that I felt was placed on my heart. That promise fuels my passion, which is the field of mental health. Through my efforts explained below, it is my hope that I can leave an impact on this world. I am dedicated to training and helping people grow and develop in their emotional freedom. The world just needs a little more kindness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because I absolutely love planning trips, this would be an easy task. So, if I were to plan a trip for my friends, we’d have to begin the visit with a trip to Busy Bee’s for lunch. We would then follow it up by visiting the trap museum and close out day one by having dinner at Cuts Steakhouse. Day two would consist of brunch followed by a tour of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park. The day would close with a nice dinner at Allor, located inside of the Twelve, located in Midtown. The rest of the trip would be spent searching for festivals, green markets, and other notable historic locations. One night would be spent by having drinks and dancing to close out the trip.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is made possible by God first, followed by a tribe that consists of my partner, my family, and my inner circle.

I also dedicate this shoutout to all of the girlfriends who are healing and focusing on their emotional wellbeing.
