Meet Cori Lu v | Media Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cori Lu v and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cori, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote is, “What’s for you will be for you.”
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is my niche. My platform is a POSITIVE space for all things black independent films. I don’t just do reviews or make a simple post. I connect with the film community and attend events, show up behind the scenes, host interviews and promote everyone associated with the indie community.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I started this particular niche after being a virtual assistant who hosted lives for growing businesses. After over 150 conversations I wanted to niche down. I consulted with my media fam, Tre Neal of Loc ‘n Grow Entertainment and we realized I had a love for independent films, so – Indie Films became my focus. I hosted my first premier in October 2022, became hooked and the rest is history.
My accomplishments in one year has been considerably extensive and I am most proud of my commitment, consistency and connections. I intend to do more and become the CORI LUV (can’t say Oprah, but really like Oprah) of the independent film industry.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
SomeONE once told me I didn’t have a big following so people won’t take me serious. I was pissed for 24 hours, but it provoked a boldness in me like no other to kick (not kiss) ass and go harder for what I wanted.
FYI: I still don’t have 10k+, but I have 100’s of connections. If your following is huge and mine is not, merging the two would gain both of us more.
Long story short, “Do not to take anything personal. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.”
Although my original intent was to promote black independent filmmakers from across the globe connect, it evolved into promoting ALL independent filmmakers. When someone looks at the website or social media outlets I want it to provoke the boldness in them to reach out for support or promotion, no matter the size of their production. If the production is huge, I would like them to know that my audience might not be yours so give me that opportunity to merge our audiences.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visit, because I like to eat I would start them off with one of my favorite seafood spot Hook, for conch and fries. I would take them for a drive on South Beach, visit the Versace Mansion (since everyone likes there) then make a stop at Groovin’ Bean. Because I’m a movie fanatic I’d show them the Lyric Theater in Overtown which I’m obsessed with and go through Wynwood (take a few pics).
We would then keep heading North and visit Juice Defined for THE BEST cold-pressed juices in the United States. At this point the Caribbean in me would evolve and I’ll have them try all the Caribbean Restaurants in Miami Gardens.
We will close out the night by getting an ice cream at Cleveland’s Old Fashion ice cream shop in Miramar. Name a flavor and they more than likely got it, (they even have a Bun & Cheese flavor
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out Tre Neal of Loc ‘N Grow Entertainment for helping me realize why I should niche down (hence why I’m here today). Media Bae for pouring into me for over two hours when she didn’t know me from a can of paint, Jessica Williams of South Promo for making sure I knew no one can stop what’s suppose to happen. Tiana Heath of Ms. Tee Talk for being a true mentor and mentoring me on how to be a fabulous host on screen. Nicole Narae for shooting me so many dope ideas.
Mula Films out of Detroit, Michigan for believing in me and allowing me to host my FIRST movie premiere with no experience. All my Detroit cousins and friends (adopted) for making me feel like a celebrity. Robert Slocum of Eyes Glued Production for giving me my FIRST speaking role (go watch Slime Race on Tubi) and Jasmine Slocum for my hashtag/name #theindieplug CORI LUV. S. Carter Productions for my FIRST production job/jobs and SeanVan Entertainment for my first on-screen role. Last, but certainly not least, my husband for allowing me to be away from home, my children for understanding and my friends who support the mission. I’m forever grateful for the start that you all gave me.
Hope it’s not to much.
