We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Truesdale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most challenging decision I encountered in my entrepreneurial journey pertained to the adjustment of pricing structures. It was a deeply deliberated move, as I grappled with the inherent apprehension of valuing my services commensurate with their worth. Over time, despite witnessing my skills and expertise evolve, I found myself adhering to stagnant pricing models, which failed to adequately reflect the value I offered.
Upon meticulous consideration, I made the decision to revise my pricing strategy, albeit with trepidation stemming from concerns about potential repercussions on client relationships and business opportunities. However, taking a proactive stance, I implemented price adjustments, aligning them with the value I provided. Despite initial uncertainties, I have observed sustained growth in my business over the past year, affirming the wisdom of this decision.
Reflecting on this experience, I advocate for fellow business owners to similarly assess and adjust their pricing structures to accurately reflect the value they deliver. By embracing this strategic shift, entrepreneurs can unlock opportunities for enhanced growth and prosperity within their respective ventures.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Certainly, reflecting on the journey thus far unveils a myriad of challenges and invaluable lessons that have shaped my professional trajectory. I must emphasize that the path has been far from smooth.
Early in my career, I encountered hurdles such as the perpetual struggle to balance my passion for photography with the demands of my primary occupation. Moreover, setting prices at a level that accurately reflected the value of my services proved to be a delicate balance, with the risk of deterring potential clients or losing business to competitors looming large. Additionally, the logistical complexities of relocating from Georgia to North Carolina towards the end of 2016, coupled with the financial strain of selling photography equipment to facilitate the move, posed significant challenges that tested my resolve and commitment to the craft. At one juncture, I even found myself questioning my dedication to pursuing photography.
However, amidst these trials, I discovered an unwavering resilience and determination. The period preceding 2020 served as a pivotal juncture wherein I rediscovered my fervor for photography, realizing that the passion had never truly waned but merely lay dormant. This realization reinvigorated my commitment to the craft, propelling me towards renewed creative pursuits and professional growth.
In hindsight, while the journey has been rife with obstacles, each challenge has imparted invaluable lessons and fostered personal and professional development. These experiences have fortified my resolve, reaffirming my dedication to the art of photography and imbuing me with a heightened sense of purpose.
What sets me apart from others in the field is my specialization in weddings, special events, and portraits. I find genuine fulfillment in these endeavors, particularly in the dynamic environment of events where I thrive on establishing authentic connections with individuals. Over the years, I have honed my ability to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for my subjects, ensuring they feel at ease throughout the entire process.
One aspect I take immense pride in is my proficiency in relationship-building. Prior to any session, I prioritize engagement with potential clients, not only to ascertain their specific requirements but also to establish trust and dismantle any barriers that may hinder the photographic experience. Recognizing the various anxieties and insecurities individuals may harbor, I approach each interaction with empathy and sensitivity, mindful of past negative experiences some clients may have encountered.
During the session itself, I foster open communication, creating a dialogue that encourages active participation from both parties. By sharing snippets of my own life and experiences, I aim to cultivate an environment of vulnerability and transparency, thereby fostering a deeper connection with my clients.
The aftermath of the session is where the true testament to my approach lies. Clients often express feelings of ease, satisfaction, and excitement, fostering a lasting rapport that often extends beyond the initial encounter. It is this commitment to nurturing genuine relationships that distinguishes my approach and leaves a lasting impression on those I have the privilege of working with.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, it’s quite amusing you bring this up because despite my expertise, I’m still navigating the area myself. I must admit, I’m a bit of a homebody – there’s just something comforting about familiar surroundings. But when I do venture out, it’s usually in pursuit of two of my favorite pastimes: eating and laughing.
In Raleigh, I’d have a meticulously crafted itinerary that includes a visit to the Raleigh Improv comedy lounge or the Goodnights Comedy Club for some side-splitting entertainment. And of course, no culinary adventure would be complete without indulging in a succulent steak at Flemings Prime Steakhouse or savoring some delectable vegan cuisine at Elements Gastro Pub. Oh, and let’s not forget about satisfying that craving for Buffalo chicken wings from my buddy’s food truck, the 716ers Food Truck – trust me, they’re wing-tastic!
Now, for a touch of culture, I’d whisk my clients away to explore the city’s impressive museums, each offering a unique glimpse into history and art. And to balance out all the eating (because let’s face it, I’ll need it), I’d definitely snag a few guest passes to the local YMCA. Gotta make room for all those culinary delights, right?
So, while I may be a self-professed homebody, I’ve got the insider scoop on all the best spots in town to eat, laugh, and indulge in a bit of cultural exploration. It’s all about striking that perfect balance between work and play – and in Raleigh, the options are endless!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to my wife and children for their unwavering support of One TrueShot Photography. Their steadfast encouragement has been the cornerstone of my business’s success, and I truly cannot envision where I would be without them. The sheer delight on their faces when they witness my work or engage in discussions about my business never fails to uplift me and fuel my determination to persevere.
In all seriousness, their unwavering belief in my endeavors serves as a constant source of motivation, and I am immensely grateful for their enduring support. My family truly embodies the essence of being my biggest cheerleaders, and for that, I am profoundly thankful.
