We had the good fortune of connecting with COREY THOMAS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi COREY, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I absolutely loved movies and stills growing up. Saturday mornings when kids were watching cartoons, I would be watching movies like The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, and Goodfellas. I would love the artistic view and perspectives that the writers and cinematographers would give to the audience. At a young age I soon realized I wanted to make other people feel the same way with my photos and films.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Experimentation. The journey of finding my own style when it comes to filmmaking and photography was definitely tough. I love dark, and ominous energy almost like the feeling you get watching a scary movie. While most photographers use light to their advantage. I try to use the darkness and shadows to add to the aesthetic of my films and stills. I have big plans for the future. I definitely don’t want to just be labeled to photographer/videographer.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots around the city would be the belt line. It has amazing food, good vibes, plenty of space to shoot photos or videos and lastly fourth ward skatepark to meet up with friends. While in the area my favorite spot to eat is tin Lizzy cantina.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here without the loving support of my girlfriend. she has been there for me through long nights of storyboarding, script writing, curating pictures and events. She is like my sidekick at every shoot giving me fresh ideas to go on. I’m very thankful for anyone who allows me to work with them, whether it’s actors, models, or artists. I love the energy I get from every person I work with.
