We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey O’Kelley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, why did you pursue a creative career?
For me personally, pursing an artistic career was a cumulation of several things. Even as a child I was always drawn towards creating. My grandfather was a woodworker – we were always building something from nothing together. As I got older my interest music grew. Once I realized how important the visuals behind marketing in that industry were, I decided to delve a bit deeper. I have also always been a very technical individual. I enjoy learning the how and why behind everything. Being able to apply that side of me to the need for a creative outlet ultimately led to where I am today.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For me, my art as a photographer is exclusively how I see the world. Like any artistic person, I draw inspiration from other photographers across the internet. I try to not mimic what they do, but instead apply certain composition concepts from their images to my surroundings. I think having that mindset is what sets me and my work apart.
I would not say it was easy getting to where I am today. However, I was fortunate enough to have an incredibly supportive group of people in my life who were willing to give me opportunities to prove myself for their brands and businesses. The same with any craft or business – it just takes time and commitment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places to eat – Lily Sushi Bar, The Local, Sugo, CT Cantina & Taqueria, Gaja Korean Bar.
For a drink – July Moon Bakery and Café, New Realm Brewing, and probably North Georgia vineyards
Things to do – Catch a show at The Masquerade, bar hop in EAV, and hike a few of my favorite trails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Kendall Hackett – My girlfriend and owner of Kendall Media Co. Without her encouragement, drive and persistence I would definitely not be where I am today.
