Meet Corey Hall | CEO Of Gamer vs Gamer / Video Game Birthday Party Experience

We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After being diagnosed with stage 4 lymphatic cancer, and giving a grim prognosis for success. I decided that I wanted to use any remaining time that I had left to create a legacy for my family to remember me.
At that time of my cancer diagnosis, I had been a Gwinnett County school bus driver for 8 years. If I would have loss my battle with cancer, no one would have remembered me outside of my family. Plus the salary that I was making wouldn’t be enough to set up my children and future grand children up for financial success.
So, I started evaluating my strengths, and how I could convert those personal strengths, into some type of business, that could make a financial and emotional difference.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I stay very hands on with my business to ensure that each child has a personalized and emotional experience. Everything from social media marketing, to overseeing the video editing, and hosting of the actual party.
Little did I know that every job that I had prior to starting this business, and every skill that I had learned, was preparing me for this business.
In the early 90s I wrote and produced music, I also dabbled in video editing. These two skills came in handy, because I use both of these skills on a daily basis.
One of the things that separates my company from everyone else in the industry, is that we do personalized video entrances for the child’s birthday.
We have friends and family submit birthday video messages for the guest of honor. We then package these videos into an emotional presentation, and display the video in front of everyone. The aforementioned skills saved me a lot of money from hiring outside video editors, which would have driven the cost of my party packages through the roof. Also I utilize these skills when posting social media stuff.
The other skills that I have acquired and that keep me busy, is sales presentations. I acquired these skills through security systems sales jobs for Brinks Home Security, I also did carpet cleaning sales, and sales for Coca Cola, and Frito Lay, and Best Buy sales & management.
However, the most important skill that keeps me busy, is child management of other people’s children, under stressful situations. This came from a total of 12 years as a school bus driver. All of these skills are needed to successfully run a child’s video game birthday party service. Little did I know that God was preparing me and setting me up for something much greater while I was doing all of these various unrelated jobs.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is an area that I have sacrificed in order to make my long-term dreams come true.
I do not spend a lot of time socializing. If I’m not working, then I’m thinking about working, or I’m thinking about how I can make my work better. One thing that no one prepared me for was how lonely entrepreneurship is. 99% of the people don’t understand the sacrifice that we make. They don’t understand why we would deprive ourselves of things that others would see as fun.
However I have discovered that most successful multimillionaires have the same mindset, they cut away unnecessary entertainment and distractions so that they can stay focused on accomplishing their goals. I have had plenty of time in my youth to party and hang out, but with the possibilities of cancer coming back, and now covid being a possibility, I have very little time to socialize and hang out.
So I will be the wrong person to ask about hanging out and socializing. I have willingly sacrificed that part of my life for a much more important goal.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without the financial support of my wife, the company would have remained a dream. She took on paying all of the bills while I was learning how to run a business. It was very stressful for her, but she also introduced me to a book that changed everything.
