Meet Contressa Oliver | Founder of Noble Glam Hair Collection, Master Cosmetologist/Barber, High School Educator, & Adjunct College Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Contressa Oliver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Contressa, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Wow, there’s so many! If I had to narrow them all down and choose the one that matters the absolute most, I would have to say dedication. The implication of dedication shows devotion and commitment. When you are committed to your goals, you are willing to work extremely hard to achieve them. I have always been an extremely hard worker and a very determined individual. If I set my mind to something, I do it! I am so engulfed that I become isolated and there’s no one in the room expect my goal and I. Some may say that I’m a bit of a risk taker. I can agree that there is some truth to that statement. I almost never remain in my comfort zone when it comes to my success. I am constantly setting new goals for myself. It makes me feel accomplished! It makes me feel complete! Although the comfort zone may be a place of safety and security, I believe that it also hinders one from growth, learning new things, and taking your career to the next level. Yes, there were days when I felt as if I had bitten off more than I could chew with building my own website from scratch, negotiating with vendors domestically and internationally, obtaining the proper documentation for that state to start a legit business, branding/marking, and lets not forget to mention creating content for social media. I felt extremely overwhelmed and often times intimidated by the responsibilities that proceeded starting a business. There were days when I would have to literally walk away to regroup but the dedication would always bring me back. It wasn’t easy along with being a mom, a high school teacher, and an adjunct college instructor, but I believed in my business and I knew that without risk, there wouldn’t be a reward. My e-commerce store has truly been a reward and I am so elated at how great it has done.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others is my strong will and optimistic outlook. With so many negative things happening amongst us, it is easy for someone to create negative thoughts or become affected by depression. Depression not only affects the way we feel and act, but it can also affect our level of concentration and productivity. Seeing the glass as half full and not half empty has allowed me to see my failures as a new start. I do not allow my circumstance to determine my outcome. I think that it is important to possess the ability to cope with frustrations and challenges especially with running a successful business. Again, there were so many times I wanted to throw in the towel because of the challenges I faced during the early stages of creating my business. It wasn’t easy! However, having a positive outlook allowed me to look into the future and see the end result. At that point, I made the decision to dedicate at least one hour daily towards building my brand. Whether I was fatigued from teaching or running errands with my boys, the commitment to my business outweighed any exhaustion that I had. I created a game plan and a list of things that needed to be done in order to see the results I desired. As the months progressed, every day I was able to mark a task as complete on my list. The progression not only satisfied my desire to become a business owner, but most importantly, it made me feel as if I was getting closer and closer to the finish line. Throughout this process, I’ve learned to stay the course and to keep a positive mindset as this has aided in always accomplishing my goals. Nothing beats a failure but a try!

As a licensed cosmetologist for nearly 20 years and a licensed cosmetology instructor for 12 years, I would like to think that I am a seasoned vet when it comes to the structure, anatomy, and physiology of hair, skin, and nails. There is a unique story as to how I was able to embark on this journey at such a young age and experience a massive amount of happiness while living out my passion. I am proud to be apart of a generation of family members that have embarked on the exact journey of happiness in this industry. Noble Glam Hair Collection was birthed from the recent pandemic. People all around were bombarded with tragedies and triumphs. During that time of idleness, I began to meditate with God, continuously praying for peace and a sound mind. Throughout the process, I was able to remain optimistic, fuel myself with reassurance, and was able to focus on an additional career goal. I created Noble Glam Hair Company with one goal in mind: to give women the quality of hair that they deserve by providing a high-quality, smart, and reliable online store. My passion for excellence has driven me from the beginning, and continues to drive me into the future. I know that every product counts, and I strive to make the entire shopping experience as rewarding as possible. With so many scammers out there, I want to give people the quality of hair that they deserve. I want everyone who has an encounter with Noble Glam Hair Collection to feel like a queen and to be confident in their look!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting my area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, lets see….. I would probably start with the Peachtree Town Center. It is such a beautiful place. There, they can explore more than two dozen restaurants and several stores to choose from for your shopping pleasures. It sits on 2+ acres where concerts are held for entertainment, movies, and other community events. There are also play areas for children. I’m a foodie so I’m always checking out new restaurants in my area. Ted’s Montana Grill and The Crossing Steakhouse are my absolute favorite when I’m in Peachtree Corners. I would also add pampering to the itinerary. Tipsy Nail Bar and Salon or The European Wax Center are great places to check out for pampering and massage. Nothing says relaxation like a full body massage. Next, I would indulge into a little adventure. I have a very outgoing personality and nothing is more exciting than adding a little adventure to your vacation. Places such as Adrenaline Rock Climbing, Andretti’s Indoor Cart and Games, Dave and Busters, Top Golf, and hiking to the very top of Stone Mountain would be a treat. At the very top of the mountain, there’s a gift shop and an amazing view of downtown Atlanta. It sits 1,686 feet above sea level. Making it to the very top without giving out of breath is truly the greatest accomplishment. Now, let’s head on over to the Mall of Georgia. It is currently the largest mall in the state of Georgia with over 200 stores on three levels. There’s a movie theatre on the third level and a massive carousel on the first level. You can also visit the famous Cheesecake Factory while you’re there. And how could I forget about Medieval Times? Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament is a family dinner theater featuring staged medieval-style games, sword-fighting, and jousting. Did I mention live? Yes, live!! Horses are galloping through the sand, warriors are swinging their swords, lights are flashing, and you are surrounded by the dramatic sounds of heroic music. Trust me when I say, it is action packed! There will not be a dull moment. One of my best parts of the evening is that you are served a four-course feast! Medieval Times’ noble guests feast on garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, and herb-basted potato along with dessert. If you haven’t visited Medieval Times, do so now!! You’ll thank me later!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I would like to dedicate this shout out to my wonderful children Khyler and Khaleb and to my family who are always in my corner. Thank you for continuously keeping me encouraged, motivating me to continue moving forward, and for always reminding me that I can accomplish any goal with determination, dedication, and hard work. Your love and support is what propels me. And because of that, I will continue to excel in my endeavors. To my cousin Lequvia Ousley, you are one of a kind.
