We had the good fortune of connecting with Connee Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Connee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To be honest, when I started this business, I had already been doing graphics for people for a while. I restarted doing graphics back in 2019 but I orginally started when I was 12 in ’05!
I started off doing myspace layouts for everybody, you know coding, the whole 9 yards.
Then in 2015, I was doing banners and Twitter backgrounds.
2019- I was doing flyers & busineas cards mainly.
But I felt like none of what I did meant anything.
So fast forward to now, I wanted to start a business that I felt like the industry needed.
Studio, because I want to eventually offer a lot when it comes to branding businesses.
-Styling/Image Building
-Photography
-Business Event Planning
And more.
Brooklyn- My late daughters name that passed when she was 2 hours old.
Elite- Because my business offers the best when it comes to customer service, design and presentation.
That’s what I wanted my business to represent and that’s why I chose the name Studio Brooklyn Elite. But I wanted to offer so much when it came to my business as a whole.
Because everyone is doing graphic design but no one is standing out. Everyone is playing off of the same websites, flyers etc. Where is the creaivity? Graphic design is an art and I take pride in making sure my work screams creativity.
I recently decided to upgrade my business to do Brand Identity Development and Websites.
Photography, Business Event Planning, and Business Styling will be incorporated soon.
I want to give businesses a chance to really find their image and attract their target audience. That’s my main focal point when it comes to Studio Brooklyn Elite.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am 100% self taught and that is what makes me love this even more. Seeing how much I’ve grown when it comes to designing is what keeps me going. I love seeing my clients excited when I present their finished work to them.
Now, being self taught makes the learning process exhausting sometimes. I’m alwayd learning new ways to improve my design approach.
People request things that I’ve never done before but I always take on the challenge and succeed in it. Youtube is my best friend haha.
Being in this industry, I’ve definitely learned that being upfront and honest with your clients will take you a long way. It makes everything more smooth and less confusing and hectic for your clients.
I’ve seen designers lie to get where they are and it’s honestly sickening because they can’t deliver upon what they say they can do.
I pride myself in being honest with my work and my ability. I’ve lost potential clients from not knowing how to do thing but I learned it asap!
Studio Brooklyn Elite will be a known name when it comes to graphic & brand design. I’m not taking shortcuts with my brand.
We will be branching out to having designers and an actual office space. I’m excited for the future of SBE.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh no! I’m new to the area so I wouldn’t even know where to begin! I’ve only visited myself but I love the area and would definitely take this time to explore and find our future favorite spots. I’m definitely looking for the nearest soul food spot though! Haha
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to shoutout Dreanna Caley. She probably doesn’t know this but her drive, determination, and growth when it comes to designing as really encouraged me to branch out and keep going.
She is @TheBossBrandologist on IG.
