We had the good fortune of connecting with Colin Adebayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colin, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?

As Henry Ford said, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” The conventional advice for aspiring lawyers is to go to law school, land a job at a big law firm, and stay at that firm until you become a partner in that firm or move to an in-house counsel position in a Fortune 500 company. Then you have achieved success. However, through my experience and assessing the careers of some of my legal mentors, I have found that the most fulfilling careers don’t necessarily follow a conventional path.

Most of the lawyers who have had the kind of careers that I hope to emulate have not taken traditional paths. In fact, their stories are atypical in the legal profession. Thinking back to one of my law school internships, one of these mentors told me that his path didn’t make sense looking forward; it only makes sense when he looks back.

So far, in my career, I can say the same. Early in law school, I realized that the traditional path did not appeal to me. After law school, I started my legal career as an Assistant Solicitor in DeKalb County, prosecuting traffic offenses. At the time, I did not know how much I would draw on that experience to effectively represent the interests of my clients as a personal injury attorney today.

The old ways of building a career are not necessarily the most beneficial. Experience has taught me that the most fulfilling careers follow a winding path. Each curve signifies a deviation from the current trajectory as the person tries new things and has new adventures as they work towards their goals. I believe success is achieved through measured risk-taking, and risk-taking happens when you dare to deviate from traditional paths.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the Founder and Managing Attorney of The Adebayo Law Firm. We specialize in personal injury cases and are dedicated to helping those who have been injured because of someone else’s negligence. Our firm takes great pride in securing the compensation our clients rightfully deserve and restoring balance to their lives after a personal injury event like a car wreck. At The Adebayo Law Firm, we are a results-driven firm that does not rely on gimmicks or flashy advertising to attract clients. Our clients come to us organically and refer their loved ones because they trust us to handle their cases with the utmost care and professionalism, never treating them as just another case.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I’ve been a fan of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball team for as long as I can remember, and I’m excited to bring my best friend to State Farm Arena to watch a live game during the regular season. The atmosphere is always lively and enjoyable, and we might even check out one of the elegant cigar lounges in Atlanta during our trip.

For food, I have a few favorite Nigerian spots on Buford Highway that we’ll hit up. And if we have time, we’ll venture out to the Stone Mountain area where I’ve you can find some of the best Caribbean food in the entire metro Atlanta region.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I owe every ounce of my success to God. Additionally, my parents, teachers, professors, mentors, and close friends have all been instrumental in my development as an attorney and entrepreneur. I also owe much of my business success to my consultant Tara Bayke at TB Strategies, LLC.
