Hi Coley Lee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Throughout my childhood, I was inspired by my mother’s entrepreneurial journey as she carved a significant name for herself in the business world. My fascination with entrepreneurship drove me to experiment with various business ideas, always seeking to understand the mechanics of running a successful venture. The core motivation behind launching my own business was to have all control of the ideas, taking risks, and being able to be my own boss. Observing my mother’s achievements, I aspired to follow in her foot steps. By the time I entered college, my primary objective was to leverage the wonderful resources provided by UGA, seizing every opportunity to grow and establish my enterprise while maintaining full course load. While balancing school, social life, and business is tough, it was the goal to be able to work on these ventures for the rest of my life and be prepared for the real world that has kept me going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I take great pride in how we’ve advanced “Update Media” and “Buck’s Custom Slings,” all while balancing my academic responsibilities and a vibrant social life. The journey, though challenging, has been exhilarating. The real game-changer for me was shifting my mindset to view challenges as learning opportunities, rather than fearing potential outcomes. This shift accelerated our progress. The most valuable lessons I’ve learned are that disregarding outside judgments, taking the initiative to just get started, and going for it without hesitation leads to genuine happiness and fulfillment. If you’re truly passionate and believe in your vision, then dive in. Ultimately, the only competition you face is with yourself. It’s you versus you in this vast world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Imagine this: It’s a Saturday in Athens, GA, and the UGA Bulldogs are gearing up for an evening showdown. Our first stop? Walker’s Downtown for their unmatched Bloody Mary bar. After soaking in the vibes there for an hour, we’d immerse ourselves in the heart of campus life, joining a spirited tailgate to share the excitement with fellow UGA fan. Having called the DAWGS countless times, we’d then proceed to Sanford Stadium, ready to witness the Dawgs ruin their opponents night. The energy of the night games are unmatched, with radiant red lights piercing the sky, visible from great distances. Once the victory celebrations subside, we’d journey back downtown, choosing from the 87 bars that Athens proudly boasts.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to extend a special shoutout to my partner, Madison Heck, for her invaluable contributions to our business ventures. Having her by my side not only to exchange ideas with but also to keep me accountable has been instrumental. Additionally, I want to express my deep appreciation for UGA’s ENTR program. Their unwavering support and guidance for student entrepreneurs is commendable, equipping us with a comprehensive understanding of “Entrepreneurship”.
