We had the good fortune of connecting with Coco Styles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Coco, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I’d say my thought process behind starting my styling company was to teach women In corporate America how to leverage their image to get to where they want to go. Since, your image is the first thing we are often judged on regardless of the field we are In ,  I figured why not work with the women who I resonate with most.

I knew I could change and shift the mindset of the women who thought their image really didn’t play a part in why they didn’t actually get a job. My goal is to shift their minds to becoming the best version of themselves through their style.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

On top of my styling company I also work for a healthcare company where I’m a team lead in a configurations dept. I lead a team of 5 ranging from UAT testers to Analyst.

I’m definitely most proud of my growth in my company as I moved up pretty quick. When I started at the company, I knew I wanted to skip a step and jump right into a Team Lead role and that’s what I did. I positioned myself in a way to always stand out. I made sure I always gave a little more when it came to my work so that I could stand out and show that I was serious. This wasn’t easy because most of the workers were at the company for many years but, I didn’t let it stop me.

Some of the things I’ve learned along the way were that I was there to do a job and your co-workers are not your friend. It’s the hard truth but, I definitely learned the hard way.

What I would want the world to know about me is I’m super passionate about helping women achieve their own unique personal style. My goal is to shift the mind and help break any style rut that they may be in. I want these women to finally start showing up as a boss and as the employee who is serious about leveraging their image to get to where they want to go while talking their vertical style challenges.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If I’m best friend was here in Atlanta for a week, I would definitely start out my taking them eat and drink at the Epicurean Hotel. They have an amazing vibe that total fits exactly what my friend would be looking for. I’ll then take them to an amazing vegan brunch at a place called Cultivate. This is by far the best brunch place that’s vegan friendly. Since Atlanta does has some amazing museums, to the High Museum we go. As for a night out on the town, Suite lounge is always my first pick. It’s big and the music is amazing.

Now for the other days we can hit some more restaurants ( vegan of course ) and some of the amazing parks and trails we have here and, for my friends who love to create content we can definitely visit the infamous graffiti wall and grab from great pictures for social media.

And last but not least, you can’t visit Atlanta and not go to the Aquarium and the world of Coco Cola. I know it’s cheesy but hey at least you can say you did it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say my business coach Nikki Venus. She has built a successful style coaching company to help stylist like myself with the business side of a successful styling company. I would say her methods and process is what sold me. Being a stylist herself is another thing that drew me to her school. It’s one thing to have a business coach but to have one in the same field is a plus. She could do no wrong in my eyes lol. On a serious note , I’m thankful to have found her when I did because I knew I was missing the business side of my company and she definitely wheeled me in.
