We had the good fortune of connecting with CoChea Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CoChea, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my business came to me during a time where I was struggling heavily emotionally with the lifestyle my husband’s career forces us to live. We had just moved to a really small town, I am a city girl through and through. I wasn’t adjusting well to small town life. I wasn’t adjusting well to the isolation I felt. Then to add to it I was battling post partum depression, from having our second daughter, adjusting to life as a mother of two all while still showing up as a dutiful coach’s wife everyday. I was overwhelmed and felt like no one truly understood what I was dealing with. Going online to search for support groups for Coach’s wives I didn’t find much of anything. So, I made the decision to make a support community myself. A community where we tell the truth about the life we lead as transient families whose lives completely revolve around collegiate sports.

The idea behind becoming a Dance Fitness instructor came from my very own struggle to lose weight while actually enjoying the process. I have never loved going to the gym. So, I jumped in and I am so glad I did. I started teaching virtually (and still do) as a way to not only hold myself accountable in my own journey but,to hopefully inspire others to do the same. It is literally one of the most rewarding journeys I have embarked upon. The people I have dance with over the last year have literally changed my life and who I am as a person without even knowing it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s funny I actually have a minimum of 3 different “jobs”. I say a minimum because I am sure i’m forgetting something. First, I am an independent contractor for a major healthcare company. I guess you could say that is truly my “day job”. I work remotely which allows me to pursue so much of what my passions are. One of my passions is health and fitness specifically, Zumba or dance fitness in general. During the pandemic I took advantage of the down time and decided to pursue a goal of mine to become a Zumba instructor. It was honestly the best decision I made during Covid. I am truly my happiest during class. Knowing that I am playing a small part in making someone else smile and eve possibly achieve a fitness goal is one of the most rewarding feelings there is. I also run a blog/support community/podcast for Coach’s wives. We live a lifestyle that you cannot understand if you do not live it yourself. Thus, it hasn’t been openly discussed for so long. Well, we get real honest over there and the messages I receive saying I have helped them deal with the tough parts of this life it’s so fulfilling because I know how it feels to struggle and lose yourself in the madness of it all.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is an interesting question because I live in a very small town and It would not take a week to see all there is to see. Locally, I guess I would take them to a Racer Basketball game. Afterwards, we would go have drinks at a restaurant called Tap. We would probably head to Nashville for the weekend, Hit up the mall and downtown, Maybe go to the Rooftop pool brunch at the Virgin Hotel.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person who deserves the credit and recognition in my story would be my husband. I know it’s cliche to thank one’s spouse but, no matter what crazy idea I bring to him he full supports. Not only supports but, pushes and encourages me to be the best version of myself in that idea. There’s so much of who I am and what I do that truly would not exist if it were not for him.
