We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Garay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process in beginning my own business rooted from the simple fact that I wanted to have in a way a “sanctuary”. Just a space where you can come in, treat yourself with some self care whether it’s a brow service, makeup application or a brow tint; and unwind from the daily demands of the world. This desire was not just for my clients, but also for myself. I absolutely love what I do, I love interacting with people on a one on one basis, and naturally I’m a very empathetic person. Therefore, when I was finally building up enough courage to go off on my own, I have made it my mission to make it just that ; A judgement-free beauty space where all are welcome!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am an independently owned brow boutique named The Art of Face. I say brow boutique because that is predominantly what I get requested in services, however I also offer lash lifts, brow and lash tints, brow lifts (also known as brow lamination), and makeup applications both offsite and in the boutique. I pride myself in making each and every single client feel comfortable and well taken care of in my space, I listen to concerns and preferences all while also providing my professional opinion and stand point. Although I have been doing brows and makeup for over 6 years professionally, I am a relatively new business and have faced challenges , mostly financial, but my best advice is always to not get discouraged in the beginning with the investments being larger than the profit. entrepreneurship takes time to flourish; consistency, presence and focus will be key to develop your business. I hope that anyone that comes to my establishment always feels welcomed and revived after their visit with me at The Art of Face.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I know it is expected to go towards the city, however my perfect itinerary will be all outside the perimeter. I would go to Tallulah falls for a hike, the hidden mini grand canyon Providence canyon state Park, wild animal Safari in Pine Mountain. I am someone that likes to do new things and enjoy views, but dont get me wrong taking a stride in the belt line and also going to a rooftop bar for a drink and yummy food is also on the list.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so blessed and grateful that I have had so much support from so many places. I want to absolutely thank first and foremost my family. They have been such a big influence and support in my decision to go off on my own independent business. Whether it was helping with ideas, coming to be my guinea pigs for new services I wanted to begin offering, they have always been there every step of the way. One of my dearest friends Kristina Mills, she has offered the most selfless mentorship and guidance throughout my entire transition to entrepreneurship, she is also an established microblading artist so check her out at @devilinthedetails_beauty on Instagram. My amazing partner Louis for providing that necessary “tough love” when I start slipping. and Finally my closest friends and incredible clients new and returning. NONE of this would be possible had it not been for all of their support. Grateful is an understatement.
