We had the good fortune of connecting with CJ Mote and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CJ, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Habersham County; a small town in the North Ga mountains. I grew up surrounded by a big, loving family.. in a community where everyone knew one another. I was raised by amazing parents and grandparents who always supported me in my creative ways and did everything they could to help me fuel that fire. From music, to painting, to photography… I always knew I wasn’t meant for a normal life or career. I wanted to create & share my art with others in some way. When I started my photography business in late 2022, the outpouring of support from the community was amazing!! People from my hometown supported me when I didn’t think I was good enough, & are still here as I now, confidently run my small business. It is because of these people that I didn’t give up in the beginning stages! I owe any success to the people who first believed in me. My family and friends in Hab Co.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I mostly photograph couples and families, but I do a little bit of everything!! I would describe my work as dreamy and natural. I’ve spent the last year or so perfecting my editing and the overall experience of my shoots. I deliver warm and creamy edits with natural posing that truly captures the magic of a moment and freezes it in time. The main thing that has changed my work for the better is learning to capture people authentically, and not in a way that feels forced.

The most valuable thing to me in this business, is making sure my client has a great experience from beginning to end! I treat everyone I work with as a friend, and not an obligation. I want each person to feel special and listened to from the inquiry, to the shoot to the gallery delivery. I hold myself to high standards in my business, treating everyone I work with kindness and patience, and delivering quality photos that they love!! This has blessed me in return and led to so many positive reviews and referrals.

There are so many learning curves in this industry. Things change constantly, and it can get overwhelming at times!! The great thing about the photography community, is there is room for everyone to succeed. I have received so much help and advice from other photographers. I’ve been hyped up, advised & inspired by so many other creatives who have contributed to my success in little, but significant ways! It’s beautiful to empower others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love my small town, but there is not much to do or see!!

Lets say I was showing someone around North Ga… I would of course take them to Farmhouse coffee for a latte! Its the best coffee in my town! Then we would go to Helen to ride the mountain coaster and grab some yummy food at a mexican restaurant!! We would then shop the Dawsonville outlets and drive through the mountains of Dahlonega until we find the perfect spot to take sunset pictures, then finish with a fancy dinner at the Montaluce Winery!! The beauty of the North Georgia Mountains will make you want to stay forever!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my family and friends from my hometown, who believed in this dream of mine & have supported me from the beginning. Thank you!!
