We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Tyler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision that contributed to the success of my business would be the YES! Yes, 3 years ago to support my now late husband in starting his poundcake business in the midst of a pandemic. Yes, to join my husband in pushing our business to it’s full potential. Yes, to continue the legacy that my late husband and I started 3 years ago, even in his absence. Yes, to push through the ups and downs of this entrepreneurial life. Lastly, yes to put my love into every morsel of my cake so that my customers will taste the love and care that I put in their cakes.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others in my opinion is that I like to build a rapport with my customers. I don’t have an option yet to order online because I like to talk to my customers. Each time I get a “how do I order” message. I give them my number. Call me. Text me. I want them to know and understand how appreciative I am that they chose Tylers Treatz as their choice dessert. Then I go into the different flavors of cake, that now includes pineapple coconut rum poundcake! 😁 I’m so excited for everyone to start to taste that one. God is it delicious! 🙌🏾

I want ppl to know my story. My husband and I story. How he was disabled when he started our business. How I worked at TSA and tried it out 1st at my job. How we’ve been featured in 2 black owned restaurants. Been on 3 interviews. How we’ve had our cakes shipped all over the U.S.! That’s what I would like my customers to know.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting, I would take them to the Trap House. The Martin Luther King Memorial. The aquarium. We’d go eat at Pappadeauxs. They don’t have that in Baltimore. Lol I’d take them to the mall of Georgia. We’d stay in one day and order in from a friend’s food truck. “My 4 boys Jamaican cuisine” omg her food is off the chain!!! We’d visit friends and hang out at Piedmont Park. Yea..We’d be pretty busy 😆

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
April 17, 2023, my life changed drastically. My husband and soulmate passed away. I was devastated. I was his princess so everyone says lol. I couldn’t drive so my husband drove me around. So when he passed I was lost. I almost packed up and went back home to Baltimore. But my friend Dyese said no ma’am! I’m going to teach you how to drive. So for 2 weeks, Dyese came to my house everyday faithfully and gave me lessons. One month later, I passed my driving test on the 1st try and got my license. So I want to shout out my friend, Dyese Mills!
