Meet Cindy Rask | Dentist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Rask and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After some years of practicing, I got tired of hearing how much people hate to go to the dentist. On a daily basis I hear this at least 3 times a day. I started to wonder why people feel like this and what could be different. I started listening to podcasts and following successful dentist online. All these people had one thing in common and it was how much they focused on the patient experience. While listening to a podcast, I heard Dr. Michael Sonick DMD. He wrote the book ” Treating People not Patients”. This really changed my perspective on how I wanted to form my business. Dr. Sonick referred a lot to Will Guidara and his book “Unreasonable Hospitality” and how there are so many similarities to our field. This is how I started to plan for how I would want people to feel when they came into our office. From the way the office smells, the look and feel of the office, the service provided. Inspiration from many other people in the field, and my past experiences in other offices.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In our practice we want people to feel heard and involved in their oral health. We tried very hard to make the practice not feel like your common dental office. From the moment you walk in and you’re received in the reception, we want it to feel cozy and comfortable. We are proud to offer intra oral health scans as part of our initial visit for all our patients, because we believe in Comprehensive care and not single tooth dentistry. Our oral health plays a vital part in our overall health, and it’s important for patients to understand this part. Many patient’s come to us and have never been made aware that their bite is not where it needs to be, or maybe they’ve never been told they have Periodontal disease which is so important to treat. We are here to educate patient’s about their oral health and help them understand how we can help them get to a healthy state. We have the latest technology in order to detect earlier and show patient’s what we are finding.
The hardest part of getting here was making the decision to start. There was never an ideal moment due to finances or family life. Once I made the decision to put my vision to life, things just began to fall into place. It’s been a year since I started thinking about how to make this work, and now I’m in my space and establishing relationships with patients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in the small city of Lagrange. The thread is a really nice place to take walks or bike rides. The path is full of trees and it’s really relaxing. Wild leap Brewery is also a favorite. They offer Midnyt Burgers which are really great and there’s a nice seating area outside. It’s a kid friendly atmosphere as well. If you’re looking for something more exciting, you can’t go wrong with going into Atlanta. Atlanta is about an hour away, but it’s full of great dining options and events to attend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dr. Michael Sonick’s book ” Treating People not Patients”. Will Guidara ” Unreasonable Hospitality”. Both of these books changed my perspective on how to look at our field and how to service others. Truly both inspirational pieces, because Dr. Sonick has been able to apply these hospitality principles to his Dental office and his craft.
