Hi Cierra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my JB Collective, stemmed from a blend of recognizing a gap in the market, a deep passion for finance and strategic planning, and the desire to offer tailored, impactful financial leadership to small and mid-sized businesses that typically wouldn’t have access to this level of expertise.

Not many know, at the start of the pandemic like many of us a I started my business which was originally named Jordan and Bright Financial Services. Realizing that my services were extremely niche i took two years off to focus on my brand and what i wanted to offer my clients. As I observed numerous small businesses struggling with financial strategy, cash flow management, and making informed financial decisions. These are areas where larger corporations have the advantage, thanks to their teams of financial experts and CFOs. It became clear to me that smaller businesses could significantly benefit from similar expertise but on a more flexible and affordable scale. This realization was the cornerstone of my thought process.

Moreover, my background in finance and accounting, coupled with hands-on experience in various financial roles, had equipped me with a deep understanding of the challenges businesses face and the strategies that could help them thrive. I saw an opportunity to leverage technology to offer virtual CFO services, providing the strategic oversight and financial guidance that these businesses needed to scale, improve profitability, and navigate the complexities of their industries. I was particularly driven by the idea of building meaningful relationships with business owners, understanding their unique challenges, and delivering customized solutions that drive real results. This personalized approach was something I felt strongly about, as it goes beyond mere numbers to genuinely understanding and contributing to the success of each business I work with.

Ultimately, my thought process was fueled by a desire to make a tangible difference in the success of small to mid-sized businesses through strategic financial leadership. I was motivated by the challenge of demystifying finance for non-financial entrepreneurs and empowering them with the knowledge and tools to achieve their business objectives. Starting this virtual CFO small business was a natural step in pursuing that passion, filling a critical need, and embarking on a journey to help businesses navigate their financial landscapes more effectively.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Helping my friends achieve success is definitely a worthy cause, but it’s not my only motivation. Being a minority businesswoman in the corporate world myself and having witnessed people close to me struggle financially, I dream of lending a hand to others. I don’t believe in just setting people up with a plan and then leaving them to fend for themselves. Rather, I aim to educate people about healthy financial mindsets, hoping to enhance both their business ventures and their personal financial situations.

With my corporate job, I’m the only person of color and top of that, the only woman in my department, and the youngest. There’s not many people who look like me who are in a senior level position in the finance world, On top of that, there are so many minority and women business owners that are starting businesses. They don’t have the success and longevity of other businesses because they don’t have the back end or the capital that others do. So having someone to educate you is my ‘why.’ Empowering and educating, not only in business but in personal finance too.”
