We had the good fortune of connecting with Ciarra Hosey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ciarra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business and brand I Am She because we live in a world today where envy and imitation are at an extreme high. We are in the times of social media where as soon as you scroll on any social media platform you are met with images of what society deems as being acceptable or ideal; from the way your body should look to how healthy you eat. There’s contant influences on how you should live your life. I Am She is a brand that is base on the powerment of ones Self; the individual. There is only ONE you and there’s so much power in that person! To believe in yourself and to invest in yourself is the ulimate task in this journey through life. I want my brand to hold as a reminder that you don’t have to be the next Cardi B, Ari. or Beyonce. That being yourself, being your best self is worth more than anything money could ever buy!

What should our readers know about your business?
My business was borned back in 2013 while working as a server at Hard Rock Cafe. I would daydream constantly about how I could quit my job and bet on myself. I had this name stuck in my head and it wouldn’t leave no matter what I tried to do; I AM SHE… but what does that mean and how would I get people to understand. As simple as it read to me it wasn’t always received the same way by others. I am a hairstylist and during that time trends were the new big thing. Everyone always wanted something someone else had; whether that was a fashion style, a hairstyle or even the attention they received. I was so different, only wanting to be myself and having that stick out. I was finding myself doing the same hairstyles on my clients because that was the “trend”. I hated it. Ultimately that caused me to lose passion in what I was doing because I was no longer able to be creative. So I took a step back. I reevaluated what I was doing for others and figured out a way to make them happy and myself. The birth of I Am She finally came about when I left my well paying job with benefits and became a full-time entreprenur. Hair was the surface, providing services to my type of client and not just any client that wanted to book. Those clients were individuals looking to enhances their natural features and love themselves more. Whether they just got lost a job or a lover or was in need of a new look, they were my ideal client. They entrusted me with the job of helping them with a fresh start and that made my passion become reignited. As a stylist, I set myself apart because I’m not just making over your hair, Im investing in your life, in your goals. I am listening to your problems and choosing to be apart of the solution. I am renewing your spirit and committing to a journey of a healthy lifestyle.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is such a adventure on it own that I’d definitely has to start with some amazing food. Some of my favorite places to eat would be Southern Fire Kitchen, Nobu, Win Taste of Bali. and Hungry AF just to name a few. We can forget about the Battery Atlanta for some of the best drink options and sports entertainment too. Atlanta also offer so many places for adults like Axe throwing, one of my favorite things to do to relieve stress. You have Your 3rd Spot, Cloverland Resorts, Fowling Waehouse, Activate, and Slimgshot just to name a few.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank God, my mother, my friends and my clients for always believing in me and being there for me. In my many moments of self doubt they all have served in some way or another as strength and reassurance. My journey has not been easy but with having them along the way I’ve remind steadfast and committed.
