We had the good fortune of connecting with Chyundra Twyman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chyundra, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
With a business such as beauty there is always change happening daily. So many times I have gotten to a point where I wanted to give up on my brand simply because I wasn’t meeting the goals I had set for myself. I had to constantly re-evaluate myself and the plan I have for my business and in that moment was hope, encouraging people to push me and show me that things will never be easy when you are your own boss. I feel whole heartedly that God places us in situations and around people to help us grow! As much as I have wanted to give up, my option has never been yes give up but more so yes keep pushing because I know that my passion will forever outgrow the fear I have of failure. Always know that giving up is never really a option until you have given it your all and exhausted every possible way to succeed at the goal you have set.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started doing makeup in 2017. I would watch YouTube videos for hours, trying to perfect different looks and aspects of every product being used. I finally got comfortable enough to practice my work not only on myself but friends. Here I am a few years later and I have my own brand, part time MUA as well as growing a cosmetic line of my own, beginning with my personal line of Mink lashes, Blinking Beauties. For me my business began with a passion, since I was younger I’ve always wanted to be apart of the beauty industry. I struggled with self esteem issues for years and just finding who I was and who I wanted to be. Being able to learn different ways to define myself became easier for me when I found the confidence to simply embrace me. My dream went from wanting to be a model to one day being that person who does all the work on a model. I lived to dress up, do my makeup and take photos. Being able to give someone else the confidence that I get from doing that makes my job even more special to me. So many women struggle with skin issues, personal things with confidence and I now have a way to help even if it is just something as small as applying foundation to someone to cover acne or make someone feel beautiful for their big days. I now have the ability to spread my love for beauty with others and that I feel like is what keep me going and motivated to grow my brand. I have learned soo many lessons throughout this journey and my biggest one has been NEVER GIVE UP! With this industry, it is never a consistent time where business is constantly steady for you, you have your seasons such as prom, weddings and so forth but like any business things are sometimes a little slow. and accepting that has made me want to step out and get to a place where I can use my talents to find something that will allow me to be in a better position and environment where my services are needed more such as being a celebrity MUA/travel MUA. I want the world to know BEATify Beauty by Chy and all it has to offer! My brand is my baby and I am working daily to grow my business and be able to share my story with those who are willing to listen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to Birmingham. Alabama doesn’t have as much fun to offer as somewhere like Atlanta but I will find ways to make the best of it lol

I would plan for us to do a little shopping of course. Take a day to do Top Golf or David & Buster.

I would take a day to enjoy the Birmingham Pedal Tour.

I would take them to my favorite restaurants such as Granny’s Fish & Grits, Encore, Big Whiskey & Baumhowers Sports Bar.

We would definitely stop by Hush lounge to enjoy good night life, hookah & great music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family & close friends have always been my number one support system! You hear people say those that don’t know you will support you more than those that do and for me that has never been the case. When it comes to my family & close friends they have always, always supported me, uplifted me and push me to be my best. I have been doing makeup for about 5 years now and I can say that my models for practicing any look I wanted to try, any idea I had for my brand, they were there to listen and encourage me! My mother has been my number one supporter. When it comes to giving up, it is a conversation she will not have, she’s forever giving me feedback and advice to grow my business! I’m forever thankful for my support system because they truly help me to stay grounded and positive about my brand.
