We had the good fortune of connecting with chyann hawk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi chyann, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to stay consistent. As we all may know running a business is never easy. It can be challenging especially during the pandemic. I had to change my way of marketing, my way of purchasing new merchandise all while making safety top priority. It is always important to keep going when your operating your business. I would get discourage at times due to the low sales and the slow process of my items being shipped to me. What helps me stay consistent with my business is to keep posting on all of my social media channels. Making sure my audience is informed and kept up to date, I have to tell myself that just because business isn’t going exactly as I may planned its ok and to keep grinding. I also learned that the more your potential customers don’t see your products they will forget about your brand. This is why being consistent is so important because that is what brings brand awareness, Although mastering consistency is something that I still to this day struggle with I do understand how important it is and how no matter what I owe it to myself and to my customers to keep going. Being consistent and having the discipline to keep going rather sales are high or low is something I challenge myself everyday and its a lesson I will forever learn and grow from from.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’am the owner of You Cute Couture, I specialize in fashionable and affordable urban chic clothing for women ages 18-35. Im a fashion expert, Youtuber, wardrobe stylist and influencer . My business tagline is when you look good you feel good. What sets you cute couture apart from other brands is that I want to sell my customers a full styling experience. I don’t just offer clothing for sale. We sale hair extensions also and styling services. I want women to feel confident when they wear my clothes providing other options that will make your outfit standout in every room you walk in. Ive been running my business going on 2 years now and it hasn’t been the most easiest journey but it certainly has been the most rewarding. Seeing my customers look good and helping them feel special is a certain kind of happiness money cant buy and it is the driving force that keeps me going. Challenges I’ve faced is balancing my energy between my 9-5 job and my own personal business, I always find myself committing time out of my day just for my business. I think when you work more than one job while operating your business you can get distracted and even lazy. i have to always remind myself not to get too comfortable. Another life/business lesson Ive learned to is to never chase money, I feel this way because money isn’t everything. I want to sell a full fashion experience and retain customers over time I care about the full shopping experience. lastly understanding my market is important. Staying current with my content while defining who my customer is in order to increase sales!!!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Detorit and although our basketball team isnt the best I would take my best friend to a game courtside of course. I then would make dinner reservations at central Kitchen which is a nice black own restaurant right in the heart of downtown Detroit. I love cocktails from Queen bar the music is always nice and the drinks are always good and strong. I love hanging out downtown Detroit because its always something to do, businesses are constantly developing. It is a great place to get cute with your bestfriend, enjoy the downtown vibes and while enjoying the newly built up city and meeting new people. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always say my family is my biggest support system ill forever be grateful for. My mom actually was my first investor of my business. She holds me accountable everyday, asking whats next on my agenda and we always bounce ideas off of each other which is always so helpful. My brother Ty is also my accountability partner he makes sure that I keep my business goals in mind and making sure I commit to my actions plans. Keeping my family in mind is what keep me motivated. I once read when you choose to be lazy it’s a slap in the face to the people that believe in you. My mother and brother are always one phone away and I appreciate them for hearing all my crazy ideas. At times when i’m not sure how things will get done I have them that pray with me and assist me any and every way possible, My family is who keep me grounded, they are consent reminder of who I’am as a person and where I come from. I personally feel when running a business you always have to keep your morals in mind in order for your audience to fully connect with you as a person. I don’t just want to sell products to people I want to leave an impact. I want to promote confidence, beauty and power which is all the things my family instilled in me.
