Meet Mr.Coker – Author| Candle Creator| IT Project manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Coker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mr.Coker, every day, we hear about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
This is actually an interesting story. The idea had always existed in the back of my mind, because I have always loved distinctive aromas, but the name was always missing. So, after my first book was published, “Easy Guide to Understanding Finances- Quick Guide to Surviving Adulting” I had a dream and woke up repeating the word Scents, then the next night I said Cokes, and that’s how ScentsbyCokes was born. When the name was finalized, I immersed myself in the process to identify the scents that truly appealed to me and the lifestyle that  I wanted the brand to represent. The brand focus is a mix of modern and luxury, so I took extra time designing the candle cover for a more esthetically pleasing product.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

The position I hold in my professional life is that of a Healthcare IT Project Manager. It involves leading IT-related projects, which requires organizational and communication skills.  Though the industry is fun, there are times when you can feel overwhelmed, but I have no regrets.

During the launch of Scentsbycokes, we sold 200 units in four weeks, which increased my confidence. The biggest challenge in the candle making world is creating a perfect blend of essential so that bonds well with soy wax, and with enough experimentation we found a perfect blend. I’ve learned so many things, and the most critical thing is to have patience, as building a brand does not happen overnight. The world should know that Scentbycokes is a luxury candle brand dedicated to delivering luxury scented candles. It is our goal to create a magical experience by procuring the finest aroma elements to create a memorable experience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, we would rent scooters at the belt line and visit some local restaurants. Our plan would be to visit the Atlanta Zoo, Piedmont Park and Illuminarium Atlanta after dinner. We would then explore Centennial Olympic Park and visit The World of Coca-Cola before eating lunch at Hard Rock Café. As we close out our trip, we would go to Ponce City Market since there are so many options for drinks, food, and games.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The shoutout will go to God for speaking to me and directing me in the right direction. In the beginning, I had no idea I would ever come up with a name or come up with an idea to start a luxury candle brand. Throughout the process of developing the brand, I experienced frustration many times, but I relied on my prayers to keep me motivated. My next shout-out is dedicated to my family and friends who have helped me smell various scents and share their honest thoughts on the brand design. I am extremely grateful.
