We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher (Cal) Radford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher (Cal), what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I got tired of spending 8-10 hours a day in a warehouse to make less than $200 per day. One day I started designing t-shirts and started a pre-order and made a week paycheck in 2 hours lol that’s when I knew I had something better than picking orders and slaving in a warehouse

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well… I started Heartshok after my son Santana passed away at 10 weeks old. I wanted to create something that would honor him and also keep me from going off the deep end. 2019 was a very difficult time for me and my family dealing with that Situation.. I always called him baby bear so that’s how I came up with my logo.. but I also wanted to be a powerful one… so one thing that I feel sets me apart from others are some of the obstacles Ive gotten pass, death, financial hardships etc… some of the lessons that I’ve learned building my company was always take care of your supporters the people that’s been there with u when others thought u just had good ideas and ideas only, I’ve also learned to always create no matter what your going thru at the time. I come up with some of best ideas in trying times

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely to a couple places, couple spots on peters street, magic city of course Big Dave’s cheesesteaks, big daddys burger bar, Calle latina in the Decatur square, Zaxby’s lol RA sushi, Atlantic station, little 5 points, downtown Decatur, also the belt line

I like fun people. Chill laid back and fashionable I like sharing ideas with other designers and creators as well as upcoming musicians and producers so definitely would be around those type of environments The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate everything I do to my late Son Santana Radford. He passed away at 2months from SIDS. After his passing it motivated me to create something that I could do to where I could spend every moment with my family instead of working my life away.
