We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Blair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As I approached the end of my 20’s, I started to think about what I imagined my life looking like in my 30’s. I started to weigh whether I wanted to stay in a career for the money, or if i wanted to do something that didn’t actually feel like work. You know the saying… “if you’re doing something you love every day, it will never feel like work. Thoughts of how I’ve always been a creative person, with a keen eye for decor and design. From a kid, when I would sketch out new designs and layouts for my bedroom to helping my mom make seasonal curtains. I’d even rearrange my cousins rooms, and beg my aunts to let me rearrange things in their houses. Fast forward to adulthood bringing my apartments to life with DYI projects on a low budget, and helping out friends with theirs – a few conversations led to “record everything you do”… all leads to me Starting Flair By Blair Decor and Design in January 2020.

What should our readers know about your business?
Flair by Blair Decor & Design can absolutely transform your space no matter your budget. I pride myself on being a decorator for the “regular guy”. People get a since of pride when they can say “my Decorator…” – it just feels high class. But you don’t have to break the bank to get it. I find you quality pieces without the upsell pricing. I genuinely get joy out of transforming a space, so it’s a win win for both myself and my clients. When you’re just starting your business, word of mouth is crucial to getting clientele so doing a great job is key. From the beginning, with each job I become more efficient in my work, I become more meticulous, and I become more creative. I yearn for the creativity and betterment that comes so my drive to keep working is natural.
People fall in love with my accent walls first, then they see all of the other parts of the room that brings it all together. Paying attention to every detail, even if that means customizing things… which is actually the best part. A lot of my work is modified from what I buy from the stores… I call that “Adding that Blair Flair”.
You’d be surprised what a little paint, some new furniture, and time filling in those in between things can do to your room, and honestly, your morale.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Husband, Michael, for standing behind me always and doing a lot of the behind the scenes work that contribute to successful projects. My friends for becoming my first clients to get my business up and running. My mother and my aunts for allowing my creativity to flow as a child. And Kesete, for the initial push for me to start my business and great advice.
