We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Quarte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christine, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important part was defining who I was and what I offered my clients. How do I stand out against the crowd? What do I offer that’s unique to me and my services? How do I want to be perceived by my clients? Defining those attributes of my brand was critical in determining my messaging, offering, purpose and brand promise. It was important that I be able to articulate this to my potential clients so they understand who and what they were getting by working with me. But I also wanted to generate excitement and confidence with clients too. My goal was to have prospects connect with me during the consultation and feel excited and motivated when determining whether I was a great fit to tell their story.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a photographer in a large market can be really tough. There is so much amazing talent out there – I recognized very early on that I needed to find my own corner. That’s where brand defining work came into play. Defining who I was, what I offered and why I was unique in my offerings helped determine my target client, which helped me drive my marketing decisions. I have a marketing background, which I felt gave me a bit of an advantage because I understood the principles of branding, marketing and communications. I leveraged this skillset in building my brand and getting my name out there in the market.

Part of my brand is connecting with my clients. Part of my responsibility is being a part of a very personal time in people’s lives. This could be someone’s wedding journey, birthday milestones or life celebrations. But each of these moments are personal and unique – my job is to tell the unique story so that it reflects the moment, the people and the mood. I focus on authentic connections with clients so their images feel genuine and reflective. I also aim to deliver a fun and enjoyable experience – I want my clients to enjoy their photography experience and not be stressed by it. All of this packaged together, I feel, offers my clients a more relaxed and easy-going experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge fan of escape rooms – and we are lucky in Atlanta because we have so many! So an ideal outing evening would be an escape room and then shopping and dinner at one of the fun spots in the city – such as Ponce City Market or Westside Provisions. For our other days, I’d balance some spa-retreat activities with hikes to the different cool nature-focused spots just outside the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It sounds cliche, but I attribute much of my motivation to my mom. She was the one who owned the film camera, and put me in photography camp when I was younger. I also saw her as a successful professional, and she helped inspire me on starting my own business.

As for creative inspiration, when I was planning my own wedding, I got a lot of my inspiration from Green Wedding Shoes, a popular, modern wedding blog and website. I fell in love with the inspiration and photography style used throughout the publication and was continuously inspired by this to create my own beautiful images of storytelling.
