We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Lacayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I use my brand and my writing, Christine Marie Lacayo, to inspire others in living a life of intention and purpose by connecting with our natural surroundings and the Catholic faith. In a world with so much chaos, division, war, and hate, we need more content encouraging people to embrace balanced well-being of the mind, body, spirit, and Earth. This is how I use my writing to help make an impact.
With my other business, Siembra Studios, we use business to drive postive change. We offer purpose-driven branding, sustainable brand campaigns, and consulting around sustainable business models for changemakers and social impact brands. We use the quadruple bottom line approach, people, planet, profit, and purpose, with every decision we make. This sustianability framework looks at the social, economic, and environmental impact of your business while also staying aligned to why your business exists, your purpose.
We’re also a proud member of 1% of the Planet, a global network of businesses giving 1% of their profits to environmental organizations around the world. We’ve chosen to give our 1% to two non-profits local to our communities of Austin, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a multi-lingual Copywriter and Content Writer. What sets me apart are my languages, I speak French, Italian, and Spanish and can work with clients in need of copy or content in these languages.
I’m most proud about starting two businesses. When I launched my brand, Christine Marie Lacayo (CML), I had no idea it would morph into another brand, Siembra Studios, just a year later. CML is where I work with Catholic and Sustainability conscious clients in need of content writing and Siembra Studios is the brand I co-founded with my best friend where we offer our services combined; branding, storytelling, and sustainable marketing campaigns! I’m most excited about watching both of these brands grow over the next coming years!
It was definitely not easy! I started my first business while I was living with my sister and brother-in-law helping them nanny for their twins from the day they were born until they were 8 months old! I remember taking on my first clients in their basement, writing copy in the middle of the night, completing the Copywriter Club Accelerator course, and marketing my brand in between baby naps, feeds, and playtime! I have so much respect for working mommas after doing that!
I started my second business in May of 2020, in the middle of the global pandemic we’re still living today. I think it’s safe to say that I’m being trained for resilience and overcoming obstacles!
I learned that I just had to keep going, that I had to invest in myself, and take risks in order to be successful. I also learned the importance of incorporating balance into your work in order to stay grounded and happy through the challenges and struggles.
This is just the beginning of my journey and I hope some of you will join me in this evolution using business, writing, and creativity to drive a sustainable and just world!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take them for a morning hike down East Palisades trail and Bamboo forest then we’d have some friends further down the trail waiting for us with kayaks to kayak down the Chattahoochee. Later we’d go to SAMA for some healthy ayurvedic power grain bowls or tacos. Another day we’d visit Ponce City Market and a bike down the belt-line for some views of the city skyline. We’d also visit the Dekalb Farmer’s Market for an international and cultural experience of this world market. Then we’d head to the Sweetwater Brewery taproom for some local and consciously made beer and later we’d hit up a live show at the Tabernacle!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
St. Edward’s University where my best friend and business partner and I met during our Master’s in Environmental Management and Sustainable Development! Our business mentor, Russel Becker with Austin SCORE. Rob and Kira at The Copywriter Club and their entire network of awesome copywriters around the world, Sarah Ashman from Public Persona, Naomi Klein’s book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate, Fabian Geyrhalter’s books. And of course all our family members in Atlanta and Austin for their constant love and support!
