We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business/career has taught me is that starting and running a business is not for the faint of heart. You can’t do it alone. You need great mentors. You have nothing without customers/clients/readers/fans. Our clients drive us, motivate us, and make us better. In the course of doing anything for a long period of time, you must be willing to keep trying even when things aren’t going your way. Optimism is key. Never stop learning. Business changes all the time — and so does the world. You must continue to grow and develop your base of knowledge about the world through books, articles, speeches, and conferences. The more you learn, the more effective you are. My faith has guided me, strengthened me, stretched me, and ultimately taken me further than I could ever go on my own. No one has to be a religious person — there are plenty of other things you can believe in that will help you find your purpose. Your business can never stay in the same place for long. Change is a must, but you must watch each and every step. So, you must invent and then re-invent. It must never stop.

What should our readers know about your business?
How I got to where I am today is because of my love language. People tend to express love and appreciation in the way they prefer to receive it. I discovered every person understands and receives love in a specific language. As a small business owner, you have all sorts of professional relationships—with your customers, employees, business partners, vendors, etc. When I say love language I am also meaning my appreciation. Taking the time to understand your own love language, as well as those of your customers and employees—at least in a general sense—can immensely strengthen your professional relationships, customer perception, and loyalty. I’ve taken the time to understand my own love language, as well as those of my clients and followers—at least in a general sense—it has immensely strengthen my professional relationships, customer perception, and loyalty. I have been through a lot of trials amd tribulations. What I learned that stuck with me from my husband mother was to never feed my pearls to swine. Along my journey I had to learn who can stand by my side or who I had to let go even if I deeply had love for them because their energy was only draining me. I could not function that way or even move along towards my fullest potential and receive the blessings GOD had for me. I spent a lot of money in the wrong places, had a lot of restless days, long stressful nights in front of my laptop and on my phone and a lot of disagreements with my spouse due to him informing me that I am chasing things for people to know my worth; the right people will be led to me. At times I felt like he was being mean but he knew who I could be and my value that others will eventually seebit when the time came I did not understand that about myself when I first started my businesses. How I overcame my challenges was I created a war room where I let go and let GOD! I literally cleared everything from out of my closet, sit down, cross my legs and pour every thought out to him within there. I pray for myself, my family, my followers, my clients and for every divine connection within the days ahead. Not only do I pray in there, I have photos of my family and close business partners and prayers written by their photos. When I come out of that room, BAABBBBYYYYY I feel undefeated and like a brand new person. The true lesson I learned along the way is that no matter what good or bad GOD got me. Everything that happens to me in life is a lesson to be learned or to be an eye opener for me. I accept it all wholeheartedly! I want the world to know that I absolutely love to guide, lead, inspire, encourage, uplift and help women entrepreneurs all over the world. Also help women entrepreneurs, small business owners and coaches who is feeling exhausted by their business, help them to reclaim their life, support goal setting, personal growth and behavior modifications of her clients, has effective communication skills, expand their perspective on life and business, help women entrepreneurs see when they are stuck in one way of perceiving the world by challenging them to explore new perspectives, discover new thoughts, emotions, beliefs, perceptions …. actions that will be beneficial to their life, business and their goals. If no one has told you before, WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER THAN AGAINST EACH OTHER! We can change the world one life at a time together!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s something for everyone in the Big Apple—whether you like trying out new foods, going on exciting outdoor adventures, or treating yourself to a day of shopping. In a city where trendy restaurants come and go, Indochine is something of an anomaly. The French-Vietnamese eatery has been an enduring staple of the downtown fashion set for more than 30 years—a place where Andy Warhol, Halston, and Jean-Michel Basquiat regularly dined and partied until sunrise. Nowadays, the décor is slightly dated and the menu hasn’t changed much, but that’s all part of Indochine’s charm. When you go, don’t leave without trying the crispy shrimp. Joe’s Pub is also another spot I will take a friend who is visting NY. It is an iconic stage in New York City. Go at the right time, and you can catch some legendary performances from up-and-coming artists. In a city where trendy restaurants come and go, Indochine is something of an anomaly. Then you can not forget our famous $1 slices. Last but not least, there are bigger and more famous museums in Manhattan, but the Morgan Library—built in the early 1900s by McKim, Mead & White to house the library of Pierpont Morgan—is something of a hidden gem. The museum houses impressive exhibitions you won’t catch at other institutions, and its permanent collection of manuscripts and rare books is one of a kind.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shoutout to every single follower and women entrepreneur that has referred my business, supported, collaborated and my tribe of DOPE, BAD A** business owners that allowed me into their world to guide, uplift, encourage, inspire, lead and empower to help them step more into their power!
