We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Lundy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, it was another doula who pushed me to open my business. There is not a lineage of business owners in my family, so it felt very scary and I very much had an employee mindset. I remember my colleague saying one afternoon, ‘You’re already getting your own clients, leave the agency, and do your own thing”. It was the push I needed. Being able to serve my clients the way I desire and now having 2 amazing doulas added to my team has been such a blessing in my life!
What should our readers know about your business?
I own a christian doula agency that prides ourselves in our ability to bring faith into pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Also, as a doula I specialize in trauma-informed care, vbac support, and truly catering my services to accommodate the needs of each family I serve. My business is growing each month and it’s due to the guidance of Darcy Saucers, helping me optimize my SEO and ways to get more traffic to my website. This process has had some battles to overcome. Trying to get more traffic to my website and ensuring my kids at home are cared for when I have to go to a birth. Thankfully, I have a really good support system within the doula community! One big lesson I’ve learned is to have healthy boundaries! It’s ok to take a month off. It’s ok to stop answering calls/texts after 7pm. It’s ok to tell a client (who isn’t in labor!) I’ll get back to you Monday. I want the world to know we are a doula agency passionate about support; whatever that looks like for a family. I want people to know the doulas on my team and myself are so excited when we have the opportunity to support the family throughout the perinatal year! For me, this truly is the best job!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
100% The ponce market! Then Sweet Auburn Market. Decatur has some really cool shops to window shop through! Also, I live in Conyers so I love our “Olde Town” with the sweetest art studio. I would take them to Arabia Mountain to view a sunset! So many options in our wonderful city!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Obviously, first the Lord. He’s been faithful in my growing my business. Next, Jet’Amie McKinney. I would not be the doula and business owner I am without her encouragement, constructive criticism, and love.
