We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance changed greatly over the last 5 years for me. I went through a very enlightening journey of depression, anxiety and unfortunately a suicide attempt. Depression led me into my career of esthetics because I wanted to learn how to take care of myself through skincare and beauty instead of continuing to spend days in the bed in a dark house. What I learned in my career is that what is intended to be an inner self care ritual could actually be a mask that many of us wear to seem ok. As I got stronger spiritually, balance showed me that when you learn to master yourself while in the darkness, you become an amazing source of light for others. So in this journey, I learned that balance for me is getting clear on what I want/need and saying no to anything that doesn’t align. Some days that’s not working late or on a Saturday because my kids have sports. Some days that’s taking a 3-day work trip and enjoying my time without the mom guilt.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Elite Esthetician Academy is an esthetic university comprised of initial esthetician programs and post-license graduate programs. Our programs provide strategy-based education compared to traditional theory-based education and I truly believe that is what sets us apart. Building the academy was not easy as it took 4 years of documenting my own progress after school and then condensing it all into a comprehensive program. In 2021, our Elites earned over $4 million in income, above the national income average, with 36 earning $100k+ annually in their businesses. To overcome the challenges, it required me as a leader to learn about (and invest heavily into) building my belief, leadership and money mindset so that I could then be able to articulate it to the students, One major lesson I learned is that while our industry was designed to provide people pleasing, service and hospitality, it was rooted in lack mindset especially in the areas of employee wages and sales education. Through this academy and my own career experience, I hope others learn that leading with amazing service and having standards of excellence will reward you. Our brand will continue to grow globally.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely say plan to visit the World of Coca Cola, Sundial and a Hawks game. Also put a bike ride on the Beltline and a day at Andretti for more fun. I’m such a hospitality fan that it would have to encompass a top hotel with a view & a spa, a place with great food & wine and a little bit of an adrenaline rush.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely have to recognize my sister Elana White and our amazing community of Elites globally.
