We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Garrand and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that risk is as inevitable as change in life. It is our ability to move gracefully and skillfully through risk and change that makes all the difference.
I would say that the first pivotal risk I took in my life was when I moved out of my Dads house at 16. I began to really explore a state of independence; although my parents style of raising children gave me great independence even before I set out on my own. So here, I began to explore risk and how choices I made would affect my life. I made a lot of bad choices! From those choices I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience.
I was very haphazard with my risk taking during my teen years. I was figuring out life after one of the greatest lessons in impermanence; losing my sister in a car accident. I was 15, she was 16; there were 5 of us in the car that day…2 didn’t make it out. These experiences molded me into the person that I am today.
Fast forward; I took the risk of joining the Marine Corps right out of high school. Five of the most difficult years of my life which strengthened me beyond measure, for which I am grateful. This risk had great rewards as well as intense challenges.
Following my time in the military I obtained my bachelors degree in Biology with a Chemistry minor; major focus on the human psyche and body. I moved into a corporate job as a cardiovascular dissector.
During these phases in my life, I felt trapped. I felt as if I was not living out my true purpose here. I had to break free and take the great risk of partnering up in an entrepreneurial path. This felt like the biggest risk I had taken yet.; to venture out and create my world. I jumped with arms out like wings and was caught by the most magical net that I could have imagined. Not that it doesn’t come with great challenges, but I am free to decide and navigate my path as I wish. I can answer my intuition and follow the natural cycles. Risk is a beautiful thing if we embrace it, follow our intuition, and be guided by our heart.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a teacher, healer, and student devoted to Spirit, Gaialchemy is my creation. In the Western World so many have lost touch with Spirit and the beautiful impact that ceremony and ritual can play in our lives. I draw Spirit connection into all of my offerings; deeply grounded and Divinely guided. I have climbed the mountain that is my path step by step, organically evolving into the person that I am. There have been some miraculous instantaneous changes and some have been hard won, each of equal value.
Whether it be making Orgonite with our company Elementalorgone and Fusionelementals, teaching yoga and meditation, doing energy and transition work, or performing a soundbath; I call Spirit into these endeavors, infusing them with something greater. We have senses beyond the basic five; I seek to heighten these senses in all who experience my work.
My biggest lesson has been to not hold back and to not play small, to keep moving forward no matter what life throws at you. To feel every aspect of this being human, from the highest highs to the lowest lows…honoring each process and giving it space to breathe. To stand in Sovereignty & Freedom and encourage all those around me to do the same, to find the power and to stay in that power.
I love where I am, I feel I have found my Truth and I will continue to hold that truth and expand it. To work toward the evolution of humanity, to usher in balance for this world, to reconnect with nature and Gaia, the great Earth that we are a part of. I am excited to see where this path leads next…there are some magical things upon the horizon that I can’t wait to share.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would begin with some yoga at Ember, my home studio. Head to the waterfalls at Panther Creek for a full day of hiking, swimming, and picnic lunch.
Dive into a Mediterranean feast at Ameers or catch a belly dance performance and food at Imperial Fez in DT Atlanta.
The Vortex is another gem of a local restaurant in the city.
We could jump into an ecstatic dance with Sol at Candler Park.
Ending out the trip with a soundbath at one of the studios across the city.
I grew up in Georgia; there are many beautiful things about this location…especially the many trees!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Evan Morganstern is my amazing partner and tough motivator; he has seen my gifts from the beginning and pushes me to my greatest potential. Evan was the key that changed my life…eternally grateful.
Jeff Glattstein is my teacher, shaman, and energy healer. He removed blockages, opened my gifts, and shares immense knowledge. I continue to walk the path beside him, always learning….always expanding to new horizons.
Ember Yoga in DT Woodstock has also held a pivotal role in where I am today. I walked into that studio the year that they opened. It quickly became my home studio; beginning as a student, moving into work-trade, front desk, and now teaching and holding Soundbaths regularly. There have been some of the most amazing teachers under that roof as well as a beautiful community of support.
I am honored and humbled to be walking the path with these beautiful people.
