We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Bjorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was basically wanting to do things right. What I mean when I say that is right for myself but especially right for the people I serve. I no longer wanted to work extremely hard for a company who did not value their client base or their employees. Instead I wanted to create a company that I could work extremely hard for and cultivate a standard of excellence in my industry. Plus it is truly amazing to have people pay you for doing something you really love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Not Your Nana’s Bakery, which is an online custom cake and dessert bakery specializing in traditional desserts with an elevated touch. What sets us apart are our inspired flavor combinations and pristine presentation. The road to where we are today was definitely not easy but each obstacle has taught me a valuable lesson and only made the business that much better. Overcoming challenges is just a part of doing business. Without challenges, your business lacks true growth. We always put God first in everything we do and ask his blessings upon all our endeavors and it has been amazing to witness all that He has done for us.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Currently in this time of Covid-19 the tour would start in my backyard and probably end in my kitchen lol! However, in an ideal situation we would absolutely start the day at one of my all time favorites… Atlanta Breakfast Club. The food is amazing every single time. Afterwards we would go across the street to see the powerful National Center for Civil and Human Rights. That museum is quiet powerful and really stirs something inside of you especially in our difficult cultural climate. Its so sad that we are still fighting for the equality that so many already gave their lives for to this day. I know that may seems gloomy but its real life. Then we would probably stroll through Ponce City Market. There is such an eclectic mix of things to see and do there. I love that place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing and extremely supportive husband Akil. He is and crucial part of the foundation and success of my (our) business.
