We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Abney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Well, I love ALL things self care, especially skincare, I’ve also worked at cosmetics stores, and the last cosmetic store I worked at didn’t sell body butter, yet there were customers that would inquire about it. So while on furlough (due to the pandemic) from said job, I decided to create two recipes, one for people who workout out or deal with muscle aches/pain, and one that works for people who have sensitive skin/eczema, but suitable for all skin types. So I came up with Glacial Healing (fabulous for sore muscles, arthritis, menstrual cramps, pre/post-workout, headaches, the list goes on…), and CBDelight (your one size fits all that’s excellent for dry skin).
Being that my songwriting name is “Penning4YourThoughts” and I go by “Penni” for short, I decided to call my business “Penni’s Potions”, so it still ties into my first love (also hence the names of the products being inspired by songs).

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My products are handmade, “Infused with CBD, made with L.O.V.E.” my the slogan. This journey hasn’t been easy, as a new company not yet having a team (keyword YET), I’m learning everyday. With challenges I stay positive, do research to educate myself, and watching other black female business owners (YouTube & IG mainly) to stay inspired.
I want the world to know my products are all natural and EFFECTIVE.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Mornings we’d alternate going for a hike at Arabia Mountain and riding bikes on the Beltline, smoothies at Arden’s Garden or Atlanta Breakfast Club for breakfast, pit stop at Sephora, lunch at Slutty Vegan/Harold’s/one of many restaurants on the beltline. We’d do cocktails at Pasha, Sugar Factory, and on the Beltline. Also, depending on when they visit, we’d hit a few events happening in the city. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God is where my strength comes from, my therapist & “fairy godmother” Sharon Reid has been an angel on my journey of healing, my favorite book (the Four Agreements) has helped me grown as an individual and as a professional. My family, aunty Sharon (RIP), aunt Kay, and great friends Caleb & Levina.
