We had the good fortune of connecting with Christiana Unaeze and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christiana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ever since I was a little kid, I had this constant whirlwind of creative ideas swirling through my mind. It didn’t matter if I was doodling new designs during class or finding clever new uses for random objects – my brain was an endless hub of vibrant inspiration.

As I got older and joined the corporate world, the opportunity for creative freedom to explore and experiment with ideas were limited. Sure, I used my talents to help companies achieve their goals, but there was always this nagging voice saying “Yeah, but what about YOUR ideas and vision?”

Finally, I decided to take a leap of faith and create my own line of products. OhSoColorful Co. was born from my burning desire to really let my creativity run free and also to give myself an avenue for creative fulfillment. Starting OhSoColorful Co. meant constantly challenging myself to learn and grow in totally new ways as a business owner. But most importantly, it is allowing me to intentionally spread more joy, color and intentionally infuse more vibrancy into everyday items.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a boutique stationery and gift brand, my mission with OhSoColorful Co. is simple: to add a splash of color and joy to your everyday things and to make gifting an art form. I design and create an array of stationery and gift items with vivid colors and uplifting messages. The current product line includes journals, tumblers, gift sets, corporate gift boxes, party favors and more.

My hope is that an OhSoColorful Co. purchase adds a little motivation and positivity for the recipient every time they use it in their daily life – whether it’s sipping from a vibrant tumbler, writing in a journal, or unboxing a giftbox with a variety of OhSoColorful favorites . My goal is to bring vibrant designs and creative personalization together to create memorable gifts perfect for brightening someone’s day, recognizing employees or simply saying thank you.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

My deep love for all things colorful and vibrant is inspired by my late mom who was a seamstress and small business owner. I grew up watching her make beautiful creations from fabrics full of colors and patterns. I know my lifelong love of crafting comes from her. I experience a great amount of joy from creating things with my hands.

I have a design background that spans several years. I have designed a wide array of products both digital and physical. Some of which include an african language children’s book series, an animated children’s planetarium show, corporate branding materials and a 3D version of an exhibit for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in NYC – to name a few. I have always wanted to channel my talents into my own line of products celebrating color and sparking positivity – and OhSoColorful Co. is helping me make that vision a reality. Now I get to blend my creative spirit with my mother’s colorful legacy through uplifting stationery and gift items.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here’s a fun, vibrant itinerary I’d plan for my best friend’s week-long visit to Atlanta – full of colorful sights, flavors and experiences that embody Atlanta and the OhSoColorful Co. brand spirit:

Day 1: Welcome to Atlanta, the city of lush greenery, rich history, and buzzing energy. Our journey begins with a thought-provoking yet uplifting experience visiting The King Center, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the Atlanta University Center. Here, we walk in the footsteps of giants, feeling the weight and the inspiration of dreams that changed the world. No ATL trip is complete without soaking up the city’s rich history and African American heritage.

Day 2: Lace up your shoes, because today we’re exploring Atlanta’s cool neighborhoods by foot. We’ll gallery hop in Castleberry Hill, snacking at eclectic joints like Bon Ton. Then we’ll barhop through the street art-splashed Krog Street Market area while exploring the eye-catching murals along the Beltline and in Krog Street Tunnel. We can finish up with a pit stop at Ponce City Market’s array of food stalls.

Day 3: Midweek calls for immersion into the depths of the Georgia Aquarium, marveling at the wonders of the ocean, before being whisked away by the storytelling magic of the Center for Puppetry Arts, a place where imagination knows no bounds. But the adventure didn’t stop at dusk. We’ll explore the vibrant nightlife of the East Atlanta Village, where the pulse of the city beats strongest, savoring eclectic bites and craft cocktails that sing with local flavors.

Day 4: Okay, I know I promised a “best time ever” and today we’re really bringing it! We’ll spend the day at Six Flags Over Georgia, riding all the heart-pumping, kaleidoscopic rollercoasters to our heart’s delight before cooling off at the waterpark.

Day 5: We can wander the enchanting paths of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, a lush and flourishing paradise in the heart of the city, where art and nature dance in harmony. Afterwards, we can take a culinary journey through the historic Sweet Auburn Curb Market, tasting our way through a variety of local and international flavors..

Day 6: Time to treat ourselves! We’ll indulge in some self-care at Jeju Sauna, the showstopping Korean spa with blazing colors, salt rooms and endless relaxation. And no visit to Atlanta could be complete without indulging in the city’s legendary music scene. A night at the Tabernacle, where the walls echo with the spirits of music legends, offers us a glimpse into Atlanta’s soul, wrapped in melodies and memories.

Day 7: As our week drew to a close, we can reflect on our journey from the tranquil peaks of Stone Mountain park, watching the sunset paint the city in hues of gold and amber, a fitting finale to a week of discovery, laughter, and the forging of unforgettable memories in ATL.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s an old African proverb that says “’If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ This wisdom has been the guiding star on my voyage with OhSoColorful Co., a journey not of solitude but of profound togetherness.

From the very beginning, my husband and my family have been my ultimate hypeman, believing in me even before I fully believed in myself. They have been the unsung heroes in my entrepreneurial journey thus far. Whenever doses of doubt would inevitably creep in, their unwavering support, words of affirmation, and genuine excitement, keep me going. They are the safety harness that keeps me grounded.

My support system also extends beyond my family. Close friends who continuously brainstorm ideas with me, and uplift me on days when the entrepreneurial clouds become cloudy. Their steady stream of love, laughter, support and motivation continues to ensure that my entrepreneurial journey is not a lonely one.

I realize that every step I have taken so far has been a step we took together. So, to my family, to my husband, I dedicate not just this shoutout but every hue of success OhSoColorful Co. has painted. In the grand masterpiece of my life and career, they are the most vibrant colors of all.
