We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since a young age I have been a creative at heart. I used to ask for every arts and crafts toys. From LEGOS, Play-Doh, art supplies, to Crayola. My most common birthday gift from my parents would be disposable camera. At a young age it really intrigued me how you can make a camera see the same beauty as your eyes. Though growing up a young black male, I had a lot of controversial beliefs toward my dreams and interests. Sports were really projected upon me at a young age also. From the age of 4-22 years of age I was an athlete, reaching all the way collegiate level. But I never lost that intriguing interest in the camera. Once I got to college I was able to invest myself into photography. I took classes and practiced with countless friends. I had so much built up ambition towards it. Pursuing photography has been one of my cherished accomplishments

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My passion and ambition for my creativity. My first mentor used to always tell me you cant teach passion, that’s heart. And I’ve went reminded myself that in all my dreams. I’ve always created for me and my dream’s self-satisfaction. But once I started to show my best friends my work, they would not let me continue to keep it to myself. One of my friends majoring in business then introduced me into the business side. My love for the beauty photography grows each time a see a personal pull of their favorite picture of someone, Many people oppose the major brands but I’ve always studied the artistry of how the deliver it to us. I watch ANTM just to see what modeling project they had that week. I challenge myself between the best and try to make myself different in all ways possible

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thankfully I am Atlien born and raised, so we can dodge being treated as tourists. Georgia has truly turned in a huge mixing pot of different generations and cultures. It only depends on the friends vibe, My old teammate, we’d probably hit-up Atlanta Breakfast Club, Varsity, Flying Biscuit for breakfast. Skyline Park, Six Flags, or an Atlanta United games. And the nightlife we’d probably hit The Battery for college nostalgia. Now a different friend would be a completely different itinerary.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My unsung heroes will forever be my muses. I specialize in outdoor portrait photography, so my models are very accommodated with Mother Nature. When I first started practice shooting, I would grab a friend, get them dressed, and head into the world. They have never turned down any of my conjured up ideas. From where wearing bikinis in 20 degree weather, to wearing stilettos balancing on an uphill ramp. I have a huge background in architecture, which I incorporate in 80% percent of my self-creations. So I usually scout the most unusual locations to put my model in. I would say the most craziest location I shot with a muse would be on the side of the highway. Even though I choose crazy locations, I never put my models or me in danger and always cautious of our safety.
